Pretend we DID beat Duke..

and I'm not saying we will, and I know that we should only focus on one game at a time. Well, I'm not on the basketball squad, so I feel comfy planning ahead.

But if we did win, who would everyone rather go up against, UCLA or Villanova? Both teams I'm worried about just as much as the Duke game. Why? Well, we beat both UCLA and Villa earlier this preseason, and and UCLA 2 years in a row. They're going to come back angry, and frankly, Texas has a bad history of losing the rematch games that mean anything.

See: The last two Big12 tourneys...

Hell, what was our winning streak against BU, and we beat them the two times it didn't matter in the year.

So who do you think you'd rather see Texas match up against?

Those two times that didn't matter were the difference between a 9-7 conference record and a 7-9 conference record.

If anything, the game Texas lost to Baylor meant nothing, not the other way around.

The thing about the Sweet Sixteen is you have a whole week to think about the matchups. The ONLY reason to think about it right now, IMO, is because you DO think the Longhorns are going to lose, and so you want to get as much speculation in before reality sets in.

It's not a matter of jinxing the team, or "focusness" to not want to think about the matchups next week. It's a matter of not wanting to invest myself in thinking about something a week away unless it comes to pass.

Knock yourself out, though.

Thanks for the permission, SL

Lay off of the assumptions there, Bub. I didn't mention anywhere in there that I thought would lose to them. It's a hypothetical question.. I don't know what source you get your intelligence from, but whoever told you I thought we'd lose, you should probably fire. Maybe you're just used to seeing everyone on these boards worried for a repeat performance by Duke.

Second, let's not get TOO self-centered on my team. I'm pretty sure most people would consider the final game against BU as the biggest one. Ya, it may have been meaningless to us, but it held a lot of meaning for Baylor. If they had won their games against us, I'm sure they'd still be seeded about where they were. That game was the difference of being a joke team, and being the team that opened everyones' eyes in the B12 as they boosted their way to the finals. I'm PRETTY sure that was considered a big game..

And if you didn't want to invest your time thinking about something a week away that you don't have to worry about, then why'd you post here in the first place? It's a simple question, who would you rather play? Rather than thinking about a simple question, you thought about how it bugged you and vented.

I'm sorry, but I don't remember when gossiping became such a terrible thing to do. It's a shame that there are expert sports analysts out there making 6 digits by just projecting how they think games will go. Is that not the point of MM? Doesn't everyone pull out their brackets and project who will win? How is thinking who we would have a better time w/, Villa or UCLA, any different than throwing out a bracket. It's all projections.

Oh cmon SL, I was having fun w/ that ranting.

Until you said I'm not worth the effort.. I don't know where that low-blow came from, but it was all fun and games until that. I don't understand where you're deriving all of this negativity that makes you throw out such a thing. I was just throwing out my opinion.

Regardless, you can't claim that the BU tourney game wasn't a big game. It had B12 finals all over it, and a chance of redemption for our loss against Mizzou for a MUCH glorified spot on the top of the tourny.

Honestly bro, jumping in and saying I'm not worth the time to explain my ignorance, despite critiquing my initial post? Doesn't that sound, oh I don't know, a bit ignorant? In fact, it sounds rather Aggy to me.

It was a simple post. Who would you rather play. What you contributed was irrelevant to the post. This is the definition of ignorance.

As much as I hate to admit it, I'm looking forward to that as well. It WOULD be really nice if his last game was in the finals though

Don't get me wrong, AJ is a phenomenal shooter, but I'm wanting a bit more of a consistent team, and part of the burden of being inconsistent lies on his shoulders. We have a lot of younger, fresher talent who need some reps as well. Sorry Connor and AJ, but I'm looking forward to the extra game-minutes that the rest of the team will be grabbing w/o you. Good luck w/ the draft, and I'll be rooting for you

UCLA.

the regionals are in boston and that's nova's neck of the woods.

there is also no reason why we can't speculate. they players CAN'T speculate, but fans can do whatever they want. we're not the ones preparing for the game. i trust in Barnes that his team is focussed on the task at hand and not next weekend.

Yeah, I'm sitting here watching this game wondering what in the heck I was thinking.

I still don't have much of an opinion, other than generally I want to see the weaker seeded team win, but it's obvious now why the question would be brought up.

Again, I don't know what I was thinking. My only excuse is that I just haven't been watching basketball this year as much as I usually do, so I didn't have the right mentality, but that sounds really weak.
