Presidential Campaign Check Box

The presidential check off fund box needs to be eliminated or replaced. The choice does not increase or decrease the taxpayer's refund, but actually requires $3 to go toward the presidential campaigns, primarily to either the Democrats or Republicans. This means tax revenues are used to help the two established parties get elected, even if the person pays no tax to begin with.

Why not replace this box with the option of $10 being used to pay down the debt, not off setting the campaign expenses which will likely exceed $1 billion in 2012?

Agree with eyes. I think it is offensive while they're stealing my money for political payoffs.

I'd like to go on the record as saying I don't care.

BTW, do you really think that a check-box opting to "pay down the debt" is going to produce funds that will go toward paying down the debt? The feds won't even protect social security, why would they isolate those funds for a specific use?

better solution is campaign finance reform. There is no reason with today's media options that you would need to spend $1 Billion to get your message out to voters.

Some solutions might be putting a cap on spending, having all primaries on the same day, and making election day a national holiday. I mean we get off every year to go look for easter eggs so why don't we just take one day off every 4 years for something as important as voting.

As someone who pays a massive amount of taxes, it is "petty" stuff like this that makes me totally against any tax increases. Start consistent reductions/elimination of waste, then ask me to pay more.

Could not agree more. You have to prove you can be trusted with money before you ask for more.

You're welcome

I don't check the box. Unfortunately, you miss the point. If another idiot checks the box, it comes out of taxes everyone else pays. As we continue to increase the national debt, this sounds like a no brainer - of course, most people like you refuse to believe we have a spending problem.

According to Morning Edition this AM, both the POTUS and the FLOTUS checked the boxes on their tax return.

Which I found interesting since BHO didn't take public money in the last election and probably won't in the coming election...

Yo, you kind of made my point when you indicate that you get off for New Year's Day, Labor Day, Black Friday?, and present day.

Election day should be a paid national holiday. Let's get rid of the voting machines and put pencil to paper.

RR - I will just assume you are one of the idiots the rest of us pay for. Nothing petty, just hoped to provide some political information - which I thought was the purpose of WM.

Isn't the box optional? I'd like an optional tax form. Do you use any of these services and list them. You get a deduction for ones you don't use. Using kids as deductions is crap. why should they get a deduction but people without kids dont, its discriminatory.

I wouldn't piss on a presidential campaign donation box if it were on fire. Also, I'd laugh at a debt pay-down donation box. This is horrible, this idea.
