Preparing my white flag.

I'm not waving it yet, but I'm getting damn close. That Twins series was so indicative of how our year has gone. We struggle with teams like Minny, Toronto and Oakland.

Texanne, I don't wanna steal your thunder, since you get such joy out of it, but eff CJ!

Blech.

CJ wasn't good yesterday, but part of the blame goes to Cruz and Blaylock for their defensive miscues (and to Ron Washington for leaving them out there). Also, give the Twins credit for a perfectly-executed squeeze.

If you're ready to give up on this team, you must not have been paying attention all year. There have been at least 4 or 5 "well, that's it" games. And each time, they come back strong. No quit in Rangers = no quit in me.

Yeah, as much as I dislike Wilson (and I loved him last year) I have to blame Washington, Blalock and Cruz every bit as much for yesterday's meltdown. Wilson needed a lot of help and he got it.

Thanks to HHD and Texanne for pulling me off the ledge. You guys are right. We're still in it, but I slowly feel more and more that we aren't gonna catch Anaheim or Boston.

I will retire the flag back to the dingy, dusty and altogether dirty crate it was pulled out from.

I thought the twins series was important for the good guys to keep pace or pick up a game or two in the hunt. The upcoming 4 vs. Toronto at home are also pretty important. Toronto is a pretty mediocre team the rangers need to pound and take at least 3 of 4 games from or I will begin to have OUE's fears of the opportunity beginning to slowly slip away.

"OUE, you might just as well keep the white flag handy - you should need it about the middle of the third quarter on October 17th!"

Well played sir, well played!

HHD, that was excellent. Well done, kind sir.

I could just as easily use it to wipe the smug look off your face when WE win on October 17th.

Why didn't Wash load the bases vs the twins in the eighth?

It seems that it would have made more sense to load the bases, this way it would have been easier to get the first out at home with the force in play. Also, you setup the double play.

Looking a little better at 11-7 following a seven-run fifth inning, highlighted by a monster three-run homer by Cruz. Looks like it almost hit the windows of the restaurant behind the left-field bleachers.

What a boost this would be for the Rangers if they could come back from 11-0 to win! And it would really lift Derek Holland - you know he's got to feel that he really let his team down. Nights like that happen every now and then to everybody - he's still a terrific young pitcher, and I'm very glad they didn't trade him for Halliday.

The flag must be getting dingy after being thrown out and being reeled back in so many times. 11-10 now, and was only about a foot away from being 11-12 Rangers.

Sigh.

This game was like our games of the past. We get lit up like a Christmas Tree and don't quite have enough to keep pace.

The bullpen looks spent, honestly. We've been able to count on 'em throughout the season, but they've looked like **** for the last two weeks now.

HHD and Texanne, ya'll sure you don't want me to divide the white flag into thirds? Sharing is caring.

Please note: You guys care if I take more than my fair share? Do you guys also mind if I take my piece early?

It's disappointing, to be sure, but I still maintain that this summer has been more fun than I've had in a long time. Watching this team grow up and mature has been such a joy! The future is bright, indeed, for our Rangers, and so what if we don't make the playoffs this year? At the start of the season, we never expected to, right?

I still loves me some Rangers, and I am sticking with this team for the duration, whether there's post-season play or not!

I think you can do everything but wave the white flag....you can bleach it, dry it, put it on a stick, and get it ready. On days we hit, we dont pitch, and on days we pitch we dont hit well enough.

Re: the '64 Phillies:

The same thing happened in 1969 with the Cubs. Durocher kept the pressure on too hard and the team folded like a lawn chair. Hello, Miracle Mets.

Hey, it could happen again, although I admit Scioscia isn't the type to keep the pressure on a la Durocher.

I have now burned the white flag.

Great wins versus Toronto to take 3 of 4. Making up 2.5 games on Anaheim was big, if we want to have any chance at those head-to-head meetings meaning something.

Losing Young for 2 weeks hurts, since he's been the only consistent offensive player the entire year. Hope Hambone isn't seriously hurt, too. That would suck. The deep pool of positional talent we have now will definitely be tested. It's nice to be able to plug Vizquel into the field in times like these. Very rarely do teams have a spare HOF fielder sitting the bench.

C'mon, guys, just hold the fort against these scrub teams for a change and we'll have a chance.

...and then right after the Angels play us, the Yankees come in for three more while we play Oakland.
It's beating a dead horse, but of our next six series, four are against teams way
below .500 (the other two are the Angels and Ms), it's time to finally starting kicking these teams around...

Yea, so me and the white flag are on really close terms at the moment.

Jesus. The A's have got to be the most unimpressive team in the league -- worse than Cleveland, and damn near as bad as Baltimore. But if you watched us play 'em, you'd think they were contending for the playoff race, as opposed to us.

9-0. Seriously, Rangers? Brett Tomko dominates you like that? At this juncture, that is unforgivable.

Bad time to have your best player and team leader out of the line up. The A's just own the Rangers all year. Maybe the Yankees will sweep the Halos and the Rangers can continue their dominance of the Halos, otherwise the flag needs to be waved.

The Rangers gave it a good fight, but just don't have enough at the end. But what a great start toward 2010! I am optimistic about the future -- this is me:

because the future's so bright for my Rangers!

I decided last night the Rangers are done. It was a fun season and run, but I am no longer optimistic they can get it done this season. But 2010 look out!
