Prediction: newspaper sites will go 90% video

I've noticed a disturbing trend with the NY Times and CNN among others.

Every year, they are taking down more and more of their written articles and substituting video feeds instead.

I ******* hate it, because it means you are forced to listen to choppy *** video and listen to their stupid commercials. All the clips suck *** too, they are only 2-3 mins long and they dont give nearly the amount of details as the written articles do.

The writing is on the wall. Online news sources know that their pop up ads are getting blocked, and they are converting to pure video feeds that force users to listen to ads in order to get content.

I hate having to watch videos (especially when i'm at work

News video on the web sucks. I will not spend 2 or more minutes watching something that I could scan in 15 seconds or less.

Besides, most of the newspapers just stick a writer in front of the camera, and they're just not good at it.

Agree. It's annoying when you see an interesting story but then you realize it's a video clip. I don't want to have to setup speakers/headphones, etc while browsing news, I just want to read it.

I'll usually just type in keywords into Google News to find the same story in print elsewhere.

The correct approach is give you a selection of clips to watch like MSNBC will do so you can watch them all together. A better approach would be to extend that so the site keeps track of the types of stories you're interested in and automatically builds a playlist/newscast for you. It could also add in follow up stories to one's you've previously watched. Now that would be cool.

Not to mention the Statesman is now $.75 for the weekday copy.
