Practice on Halloween

Went to practice today (Sat. 10/31/15). Saw Natalie Chou there with her sister. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we land either her or Sabrina in the next few days.

Once again, I am really impressed with the conditioning the team displays. While there was plenty of sweating, no one seemed to be imitating a fish out of water. Mide seems more comfortable in the post than the first time I saw her a couple of weeks ago. So does Jordan. I still think they will fit into a rotation of Imani, Kelsey and Sara rather than displacing one of those three.

The coaches are focused on making sure that the drills are run perfectly, with the team having to start over if there is an error. Everyone seems to know what to do in each drill. It’s not always perfect but there is a lot more instruction on technique and working through options than teaching the system. Which is the way it should be at the start of year four. Except for Brady, the players on the roster have only played under Coach Aston’s system.

It was nice to see the older players teaching the younger ones on what they should have done when scrimmaging the guys, whether that was two on two or five on five. Good chemistry between the players sure seems to be there.

Last season, I would have taken Brooke or Ariel as the ones I wanted finishing a fast break. I think I might have to put LaShann a bit ahead of those two this year. Her ability to finish, at least in practice, really is outstanding.

The team seemed to make a bunch of errors during drills but in the short scrimmages at the end of practice, they ended up beating the men. Practice is tough. The scrimmages seem to be a bit easier.

Next Wednesday is the practice and dinner with the coaches and players.
