hope you all made your plans to attend. Can't wait to attend. Really great of the coaches to have this so we can get a chance to interact with the team and staff before the season starts.

The practice was a regular game length scrimmage—two 20 minute halves. Imani and Diani were held out. Coach did say that it is uncertain when they will be back. No talk of what the problem is with Diani. We know why Imani’s out. IIRC, coach said that this was the first game length scrimmage the team had so far. They have had shorter scrimmages before.

Refs gave a talk and demo on the new rules of emphasis. Lots of combinations on the floor, including one that had all three frosh on the floor at the same time. Our posts got the green light to shoot from well outside the post area. IIRC, both Kelsey and Nneka hit either 3s or long 2s. The frosh are still learning the system. They looked a bit lost at times. Their quickness, speed and hustle, though, are unquestioned. They are going to make a serious push for playing time.

This is the beginning of the third season under this staff. The understanding of the vets in what do in drills is easy to see. Not as much time is spent on teaching how to do the drills. Now, it’s more a matter of doing the drills full speed rather than thinking about how to do it. This team is physical, quick and versatile. There’s many players that can be used in different combinations. Noticed Brady and Ariel at the four at times. Horns are a bit thin at the post with both Imani and Diani out. All four posts were foul plagued at times last season. They seemed to do a good job limiting their fouls in the scrimmage against the guys.
I was pretty happy as I thought each player improved from last season. There were a number of 3s made by a variety of players, including Celina and Krystle. Brady may start off being the focus of defenders due to the number of 3s she took last season, but she will have plenty of teammates to help out. Our FT shooting was not as good as it needs to be but that should improve. I am curious to see if the team gets to the line more often than they did last season.

We got some nice passers but did force some leading to TOs. Brady and Brooke made some nice passes in traffic. Brooke also tried one pass from one sideline to the other that was intercepted. Can’t do that when passing into traffic. The team seemed determined to drive inside for layups. They got some shots rejected by the guys. The guys have some height inside. All of our posts had some strong rebounds against the guys. Empress leaked out several times for layups. She made some in traffic that looked extremely difficult. Kelsey showed off what looked like a hook shot.

Right now, the only two spots that seem pretty stable are the posts: Nneka and Kelsey. Looks like the backcourt spots are wide open. Imo, the leaders are Brady, Empress and Celina. But there is no let down when the others are subbed in. Won’t surprise me at all if the starting lineup is in constant flux for a number of games.

There’s times when this is the most vocal team I have heard is the past few years and others when I can’t hear them at all. But take that with a grain of salt as my hearing is not exactly 20-20, so to speak.

This going to be a fun team to watch. The players seem to have a lot of camaraderie on and off the court. They encourage and push each other on the court to get better.
The exhibition game is Nov. 9th, just 17 days away.

Chicken strips and brisket were the main course. some salads and lots and lots of desserts. The brisket was cooked by a long time fan who started it at midnight so that it would be ready by the time he came in at 2 pm. Simply wonderful meat.
