This is a just an exercise in futility but im bored.

As I see it there are 6-7 really big names out there that Texas still has a good shot at.

This is the way I see it.

Seastrunk - Mack isn't Pete Hollywood, and he isn't double talk Les Miles who will promise the farm. As much as everyone says Auburn I think he's going to LSU. IMO no way he commits to Texas <10%.

Matthews - Again, no way we get him, Trojans or Aggies. <10%

Jackson Jeffoat - I see Texas getting him. Basketball tipping in our favor over OU and USC. Recruiting for the horns is off the charts crazy for 09 and 10. OU lost most of their team in one man, Griffin. 50%+

Darius White - I think its a toss up between OU and Texas right now. His mom loves UT and that could spell a win for us in the end. They are all mommas boys.

DeMarco Cobbs - This guy is all over the place, not sure he would be the best fit at Texas with 16 wideouts already. Maybe LSU when Miles offers the QB position only to take it away next year.

Jordan Hicks - I think we get him to. Between Texas and OSU. Of his final 6, 5 schools are 1,000 miles away, despite offers from ND, Michigan, Wisc, Illinois, WV, etc... His favorite was Texas growing up and OSU's LBs haven't faired so well in the NFL the last few years. 50%+

This is all out of my *** with a few hints of truth. I would like Seastrunk and Hicks the most. Cobbs and White I could do without the most, i've seen some odd 40 times for white. 4.85 from scout don't know if there is any truth. A very good talent no matter.

I'll play.
White - 60-40
Jeffcoat - 50-50
Hicks - 50-50
Matthews - 20-80
Cobbs - 0-100
Seastrunk - Less than 0

85% chance of getting one of either White, Hicks, or Jeffcoat, and a Top 5 class. 40% of getting two of the three, and 10% chance of getting all three.

[Edited in light of new info on Matthews, Seastrunk, and White]

1. Franklin
2. Jeffcoat
3. Hicks
4. White
5. Matthews*
6. Seastrunk*
7. Cobbs*
8. Reed*

*would take a significant change in current circumstances. offering tyler stephenson, evan washington, or deandrew white would be more likely.

wow you guys are optimistic... the news has not been good for months.. my guess:
Franklin 45% - we got in late, though he still has a soft spot for us.
Hicks 30% - never easy to get an oos guy no matter how much he likes us.
White 25% - slipping by the day to ou.
Jeffcoat 20% - sis at ou, pulls at usc, i just don't see it.
Stephenson 20% - maybe a late offer, and he would probably jump
Matthews 5% - more like 70-25 aggy-usc
Cobbs 0% - maybe negative % at this point.
Seastrunk 0% - coaches probably have moved on.

despite our feb-may optimism every year, it seems like the same story. we end up with a great class (and thus you can never REALLY complain), but miss out on 3-4 guys that could make it a top 2 class. 1-2 of those guys were once considered 'locks', but then go to OU. we try for one big time oos guy and make the final 2 or 3, but come up empty. it's almost like you can predict next year, given the same pattern. somehow we'll manage to whiff on green and brown ughh...the DT from louisiana will stay with LSU. yada yada yada...

I agree with you Colt except for the green brown scenario. Especially green. It looks like sims will be an okie. sims and brown are exactly the same size so I don't see them going to the same school. After whiffing on seastrunk this year and not bringing in a quick RB for 2 years, I think green jumps at the offer. He's also from SA and proximity will favor the good guys. I also see us getting one off the above mentioned list. That might be wishful thinking on my part.

logic would dictate that green comes to ut, but given our track records with RBs the last few years, as well as the schmoozing that pete caroll will lay on for green to be the 3rd coming of reggie bush, there is reason to be skeptical. next year, the rbs will be loaded in texas, so if we don't get 2 good ones (at least 1, if not 2 of brown, green, sims, and marquez) it will be a travesty. i could see the kid from colorado giving us a look (another jordan hicks scenario perhaps), but oos is never a given. hopefully, this position turns around like qb, when we fell into colt after the whiffs year after year.

If we don't end up signing any of the top remaining recruits, this won't be a top 10 class. Noticing the trend of not being able to sign the big name recruits late, we could see the same happening this year.

However, if we end up going undefeated through out the season AND the media is riding our jocks, recruits are going to notice this. Therefore, we could close out the year winning head to head battles and maybe having recruits change their verbal commitments.

We shall see.......................

scratch the white prediction.. down to 5% now at best...

There's been some pretty sick news of late with Matthews, Cobbs (not that I ever really had hope for him), and White (who inexplicably we used to "lead" for). Really could use a good pick me up to ease the pain.

Man this class could have really been great, the talent level was the deepest in Texas that it's been in a while. Losing guys like White and Lache that are simply on a level talent-wise that only comes around a couple times a decade is hard to swallow; this could have been our best class of all time

I just don't get how we're the only elite program in the state, and we can't seem to get interest from the top guys in our own backyard.

And there is the problem , Duff_Man, Mack chose to play the old stay in the state game, and that ONLY works if you get ALL of the top in state players. If not, you have to get off your tail and recruit out of state also. The plan now needs to be changed to do more out of state recruiting for sure. This trend is a bear market. We need now to have a really blow out year on the field to get the mojo back in our recruiting.

I see a lot of doom and gloom posts about the state of MB's recruiting and that he's losing his touch with 5 star recruits. It maybe that many of them are playing games with coach Brown and he's not biting. Also, I think this really underestimates how talented the 4 star recruits that Mack is landing. Many of the 4 stars Mack is getting are just as talented but I think will be more motivated. Some just like last year will move up to 5 star. I say let the prima donnas be some other program's headache.

Even if we don't get another commit this year, we still have a very good class. With the guys we have and will continue to get, plus our coaching, we will still win 12-13 games a year. So the ones who have a chance to but don't sign with us will just miss out.
