There are 3 post players on the roster right now: 6-4 Ashley Gayle, 6-3 Kristen Nash and incoming freshman 6-5 Cokie Reed. Even if Kelsey Bone (6-4 or 6-5) signs with Texas, that’s a very slim number. While Kat can and has played in the post, she’s better suited as a wing.

In 2010, Ashley, Cokie and Anne Marie Hartung (6-3 F) will be on the roster. Kat will be available to play inside. Still the same problem, really thin frontline. Even if Bone has signed with Texas, having 4-5 post players to rotate at the two post positions is a big strength, especially when your guards and wings are under 6 feet.

Just speculating but Nicole Griffen, 6-6 C from Milwaukee, Wisc., is one of the top post players in 2010. She’s built like Lindsey, slender, fast and with that shot blocking ability. Wonder if the coaches have looked at her.

Griffen’s profile from Hoopsgurlz which ranks her as the 35th player in the 2010 class.

I'm hoping that the coaches are working hard on luring Chiney Ogwumike to TX and away from Stanford!!
Long shot i know, but, hey....as the saying goes, "it ain't over till it's over".

What we haven't had in long time is a really good Power Forward. No offense to Earnesia, as she gave tremendous effort this season, but we have been undersized at PF for a long time, it seems.

It's been said that Cokie can slide to PF should we decide to go with a big lineup. Still, I'm surprised we didn't go hard after a PF, although perhaps that's what we had in mind for Joslyn Tinkle of MT.

Someone mentioned JUCO player, 6'1 Danielle Adams. Looks like she's taking 4 official visits this Spring, but is being very tight-lipped about who will get those visits. She originally signed with MIzzou, and from what I read, has ideal size for a PF, but is versatile enough to play on the wing and drain shots from the perimeter. She might a package deal with her childhood friend, 5'5 PG LaToya Johnson, who is on the same JUCO team. I'd say we could use 'em both!

from what I have heard and have seen personally during the summer camps, Cokie can play PF and C. She also has worked hard on her ballhandling and shooting to be able to slide out and play on the perimeter at times. Bone is supposed to be able be able to do the same. Chiney is looking at playing primarily on the wing in college from what I have heard.

Wait...having four solid post players is a thin number? I say that if you have three you are ahead of 99% of the other teams in the NCAA.

But Babhorn, in an earlier post you said you would rather have Tayler Hill than Kelsey Bone because you were afraid we would be so thin at guard. Of course, like me, you are probably concerned that we will be too thin at both positions.

Cokie is quoted as saying that Coach G tells recruits that posts and power forwards are interchangeable in her offense. These distinctions get a little nebulous, I think. By power forward, I guess we're talking about someone who can play facing the basket and move to the wing, as well as working on the block? (e.g., Ashley Paris as opposed to Courtney Paris?)

I don't think we'll be too thin at the guard position at all. we have Britt, Erika, AT, Yvonne, along with Lauren (and Tayler

) Kat can also play there when we need her to.

Posts are going to be....Ashley, Cokie, (Kelsey?) , Kristen..and Kat when we need her there. The "quote" from Cokie about being interchangable in Coach G's offense is so true, which is another thing Kelsey has mentioned to be important to her. She can be a center, power forward, or even a wing to shoot the 3 if she wants to be. I think Coach G's offense will allow for that.

If she chooses the aggies, she's looking at being second best to the guard play there....just as Micheaux has been for 4 years!!!!!

Alison Bales spent a lot of her time in the high post while at Duke. First, she had great shooting range. Second, at 6-7, she could run a high-low with Mistie Williams.

When Mistie graduated, you saw Bales working with Carrem Gay, where Gay, the 6-2 slender PF, was on the low block. But by pulling Bales out in the high post, it opened up the lanes for the backdoor cuts (and Lindsey Harding kept cutting to the basket).

Gail recruits players, skillsets, and versatility, not positions.

Micheaux seems to have a pretty limited offensive arsenal so it would have been very difficult for A&M to build their offense around her. I think that A&M would change their style enough to incorporate Bone and her offensive abilities.
