Post your 3 favorite World Cup Goals

Grosso vs Germany in 2006. Seen a lot I know, but what an angle, around the keeper, inside the far post!

Escobar own goal for the US. For all the wrong reasons. Yes I jumped off the couch, but only for a moment, then you had to start thinking about what might happen to him in Columbia.

Brian McBride 2002 vs portugal. This one put us up 3 nil and you just knew were weren't going to give it up!!!

I hated that Mexico lost the game on this goal, but what a beautiful hit it was.
Maxi Rodriguiz 2006

Klinnsmann's goal at the 0:17 mark. I was actually at this match in Chicago. FIFA dismissed the official the following day for not calling the penatly at the 1:22 mark. With a 3-2 quarterfinal victory for Germany, it turned out to be critical

And finally, it may not be the most beautiful goal ever, but it was made by one of my all time favorite international players, Johan Cruyff, to drive the final nail into the coffin of Brazil during the 1974 WC second round and put Holland into the final.

Because I'm a slacker, I'll post one--my favorite score from the 2002 World Cup. There were a lot of superb goals in that Cup, but this one was pure artistry.
The Italians seemed more concerned with keeping the Mexicans in front of them than applying pressure and trying to win the ball back. When I saw this live, I remember thinking, "That's going to cost the Azzurri. You can't concede possession to a team like Mexico and not be punished."

Sure enough, after a precise and deliberate buildup, El Tri did exactly that as Cuauhtemoc Blanco found Jared Borgetti making a diagonal run to near post. Despite running the opposite direction, being well marked and even pushed as the ball arrived, Borgetti managed to head the ball to far post. Buffon could only watch.

Anyway, here's the link
. I picked this one because it included the buildup.

I am too lazy to go find the you tubes but

1. Paul Caligiuri's goal for USA against Czechoslovakia in WC '90; yes it was a meaningless goal in a 5-1 loss but it was the first US goal in a WC in 40 years and that '90 team was the first in the current run of 6 straight appearances for the Stars and Stripes. The US had to start somewhere and that team was it.

2. Eric Wynalda against Switzerland in '94. A set piece rocket that tied the game and gave the US a crucial point that helped get to the second round.

3. (Tie) John O'Brien against Portugal and Brian McBride against Mexico in 2002. Two huge goals that opened scoring in two games that were critical during a shocking quarterfinal run by the US that should have gone even further if that blind ref had called the handball everyone but him saw.

BTW I was at the Germany-Belgium game in '94 clerking for a firm in Chicago and got to see the Klinsmann goal in person, it was a thing of beauty.

Not a huge soccer fan so I was curious if this list is limited to the top 3 goals due to brevity or because there have not been 10 goals scored?

3 favorite or three best?

I chose my three favorite, they are most assuredly not the three greatest or even three best I have seen just the three that are my personal favorites because of their significance for team USA.

I got what dude was really trying to say but frankly am weary of defending futbol to those who just dont like it so was answering 1899's point about favorite goals not necessarily being best goals. BTW dude If you dont like it, dont watch, your loss.

Just kidding. I've been trying to get into it. My new biggest complaint is the officials. That 3rd goal that was taken away changes everything for us. What a load of crap. But I hate it when people ***** about the refs, so....

I cant wait to see what the official response is about disallowing the third goal. Funny how Bradley was literally being tackled at the same time. Of course the ref didnt see that.
