Post Game EOT

Has anyone in the Athletics Dept. or Administration commented on the post game playing of the EOT? Was it a simple lack of planning and coordination to play it as the two teams were shaking hands, or was doing so intentional? Very curious to hear feedback from some of the more highly connected posters. Thanks much.
BTW, Dion if this should be In The Stands or elsewhere, please relocate at your discretion.

I've thought about posting this for years. My belief is it shouldn't be sung after losses. We don't light the tower. Singing it after UCLA 97 made me cringe. Fire away.

The band always waited for the post game handshakes
I think it was deliberate to try to minimize people singing it
I agree with this^^^^^and thought THs postgame comments on the subject came across as disingenuous. I loathe dishonesty, but....whatever.
Gonna focus on the positives

Traditionally, the Eyes sung after a loss has been to show support for the players.

A lot of fans have made it a goal to never leave before the singing of it, even after disgraces like UCLA, various 50 point losses to OU, being (well) beaten by Kansas, or just last year, where Cole Perkins had to add Texas to list of assault victims of the Baylor football team.

Will be interesting to see if, after a bad loss, the players ignore the singing of it, or pile on to "feel the love" after being taken to the woodshed.

FWIW, the thread on this subject on OrangeBloods has now reached 15 pages, on their football board, not on The Corral.

The percent of dissatisfied posters is running very high, around 80%.

(Dion, I didn’t start this post On The Field.)

No politics this was just a tremendously weak move by administration to avoid what was going to be a not pretty scene. Own it, the fans will sing it, the players won’t, and it will drive a real wedge but do it right and own it.

This has nothing to do with politics. It's about common sense.
Thanks IDK for providing cover.

To me this is all on Herman, and I am disgusted (again) that he doesn’t respect such an important tradition. Texas Football is more than wins and loses. Much more. Lose that and you’re dramatically devalued the brand. My expectation is that licensing revenue, # 1 or two for many years, is about to take a massive dive.

Players actually were leaving from the start. Yeah several were still mingling with the other team but several were jogging off at the start.

I was watching the teams at midfield and the music caught me by surprise. The jumbotron operator has made multiple mistakes over the last several years, like blaring commercials or "music" while the LHB was playing or when the cheerleaders were leading a cheer. No one on this board is more critical of the things going on than am I. That said, I think the operator was in a hurry to get home. Multiple players heard it and were looking around like "where am I supposed to be and where is everyone?

With no band (why?) the timing was off and it appeared Herman had not covered what protocol it you wanted to sing, i you wanted to leave, if you wanted to kneel with your fist in the air.

I saw some players run to the locker room as soon as the game ended. No intention of waiting for the Eyes.

If EVER the Eyes ofTexas needed to be on anyone it was that team in 97.

I'll never forget. Freshman year at Jester. Halftime. Fans pouring out coming down 21st outside away from the stadium. I went downstairs, walked right up to the home side, walked right in, went up the ramp to the 50 yard line and sat my *** down on the 4th or 5th row. No one stopped me lol.

Good point. If team walks off field after laying down a stinker, do we boo? They want to act differently from the university, as if they don’t want to be part of it.

OTOH, the Pitt football team knew exactly what to do at post-game, even in the absence of their band.

After their win last night the Pitt football team walked over to where the Pitt band would have been and sang the fight song as they do after every game keeping this tradition with the band going even in their absence.

Yeah I think it’s lame to say no pregame prep led to this fiasco. They easily could have gone to the cheerleaders/student section. It was predetermined the song would be piped in AFTER the tower lighting without any delay. As I’ve said, players were leaving before song even started, IMO they knew it was up next and were outta here, or did not care. Simple as that.
