Post-Break Up Vacation Ideas?

My GF of 4.5 years and I recently broke up. I'm wanting to take a week-long vacation sometime this summer to just get away from my current feeling of not wanting to do anything.

I like the outdoors (hiking/biking) and am really looking for someplace to be by myself and relax during the day, but enough nightlife to keep me entertained. I've been to most states west of Texas, but have never done much east; I could do international, but don't have too much time/money to do anything extremely exotic . Just wondering if anyone had suggestions for some places off the beaten path...

I was gonna say the Bunny Ranch in NV, but you've been west before.

How about the Appalachian Trail? You could hike from town to town. Although, those towns probably don't have much nightlife.

If it were me, I'd probably spend the first few days totally alone in the woods, then head back to the nightlife and be drunk for the next few days.

(Sorry about the breakup)

If you really want to get away and do something a little more on the exotic side then I would suggest Banff National Forest. It is about an hour drive north of Calagary, Canada (so easy to get to on most airlines). Lot's of hiking/biking trails and a great little town (decent nightlife) with all kinds of wildlife running around. I have always enjoyed going there.

Got to Ios, Greeece. Nail lots of Aussie, Brit and Canadian chicks (Scandinavian as well if you go in August). Feel better.

Not sure about the night life, but how about New Zealand?

If you want local, how about going up to Boulder, CO. Probably would have everything that you need.

I was going to add that going somewhere pretty remote by yourself seems like a good idea on the surface. But once you are alone and hanging out, you will be wishing you went somewhere with a little more action or more people around.

Memphis.

EDIT. Sorry, I hit the enter button before I thought this through. Drive to Memphis. Take the back roads and stop in some small towns along the way for a piece of pie and some good local food. Then, when you get to Memphis, go find a blues bar, drink yourself silly and goof around.

Crap, I delete my post.

Anyway I said Seattle. And suggested that camping/hiking by yourself isn't the answer since you're still not doing a whole lot. So go to Seattle, hike around the parks up there during the day if you want, but hang out with people and experince the city at night. There are hornfans who live there I'm sure you could hang out with. And the change of scenery as well as change of company might help you move on.

halsteadfrost's right about Seattle. There's a ton of stuff to do up here in the summer and the weather's awesome. We haven't had a temp over 76 since we got here in May. There's hiking out near Rainier, the ferry rides out to the islands, catch a Mariner's game at Safeco, go downtown for some fun, etc.

i second costa rica.

or puerto rico. go stay at the ritz, there is a nice casino there and the beach is great.

Thanks to all for the input. I've been to Seattle twice before (once with my family and the other with the GF) and have enjoyed it thoroughly, but I'd prefer to go someplace new. I'm going to visit my uncle in Calgary later this month with some family, but I'll be hard-pressed to get much alone time there.

I'll look into Costa Rica. A co-worker mentioned Nova Scotia as a good possibilty, with Halifax having some decent night life. Any opinions there?

Iceland

stay in the capital (which has some pretty decent nightlife) and go out for daytrips from there. very unique place, lots of cool stuff to see

the flight is an hour shorter than the rest of europe

While Iceland is actually not a bad place to party, you can walk the capital in half a day. However, they do have some very nice women.

6 months after my son's divorce was final 9 years ago, we gave him a trip for two at the NYNY Hotel/casino in Vegas.

He didn't waste it.

Look into Argentina, the women are unreal. Look into Cordoba area or Neuguen area, everything was cheaper than Buenes Aries here.

The country side seemed to hold any type of activity you're interested in. While I was there, picked up a one day dove hunt and went fishing one day too.

Ohh, yeah, the women, beautiful !

go somewhere outdoorsy and adventurous for the first several days and then on your way back, fly to Vegas for the last weekend.

I wasn't going to mention Vegas since it didn't really sound like what this guy needed.

But if he's interested there ARE outdoor areas near Vegas. First of all there's Zion national Park which is a short drive away. You could head there for a few days and then bookend it with Vegas.

Other options are Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire which offer rocky scenery. I've heard that valley of Fire has great sunsets, but I've never been to either.

I have been camping near Mt. Charleston though. They have some nice hiking around there, and the terrain is more wooded/mountainess than Red Rock Canyon. It's less than an hour away from vegas, but it feels like a world away. Even if the OP doesn't take me up on this suggestion, I'd recomend checking it out to others who like Vegas, but might need a "break" in the middle of a trip.

Latin America- Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil,or Peru are all places you will entirely forget about whats her name.
You will have a completely new outlook when you return- guaranteed.
