possible tourney win? re: PIttman

Huge if, but if we draw a team we can get the ball inside against, like tonight, I think there's a chance of a tourney win. Of course we can't have an 18 point half either.

I still think we're a 10 to 12 seed, anybody think we're higher than that?

I just wish we had more than one good game in a row to get some optimism.

I don't see us below a 10 seed. Teams from a major conference seeded 11 or 12 are usually included in everyone's "last 4 in" list and I don't think this team is on that list.

According to the announcers tonight this team has the talent to be a sweet 16 team. With that said they have to play a hell of a couple of games to do that. If they get on a roll they can do it.

Just like everything else, it's all in the draw. The matchups are key, and with the right matchup, this team could absolutely get into the Sweet 16. They could also be one and done.

funny thing is that the Big O (I was at UT when he visited Austin) was much bigger than Dex but somehow managed to play a lot of minutes and had a decent NBA career. It's a good comparison, but O was a little longer and crashed the glass better. I'm thinking Dex has NBA potential with his smooth movements, soft touch, and explosive leap on dunk which is really cool to watch. When was the last time UT had such a power dunker? He's my fav player to watch on this team and am looking forward to his final year and improvements.

Big O is Oliver Miller, not Hakeem Olajuwon.

I'd say the Big O comparisons are pretty much all Dex has going, in terms of NBA-ish players. He reminds me of the big offensive lineman that every 2A or 3A high school trots out there to body out rebounds. You know he's not going to play basketball at the next level, but it's fun to watch 3 guys try to take him down or foul him.

That's a pretty big prediction. Pun intended.

First of all, his ball control, foul trouble, and lack of stamina would pretty much keep his draft status in doubt. He'd get stripped in the pros every time he tried a bounce step because he goes too low with the ball.

Mostly, it's the stamina. A dude who averages <20 min in college isn't going to have a big enough impact in the pros. He might be a serviceable backup post player if he can get it in gear, but right now I'd say college is his epitome of success.

This reminds me of the Brandon Mouton posts.

Dex will be drafted early second round just because he is big.

As a freshmen I posted that Dex would leave after 2 years conditioning with Todd Wright, did not develop conditioning as I projected but he will be drafted early second round if not late first round next year
.
Dex has good foot work, soft hands, has shown that he knows how to seal his man, he catches everything near him.
His skill sets are still getting better every game out. He rebounds and boxes out very well. A back up big guy who can score a few baskets and rebound some will earn a few 100K's for 10-20 minutes per game.

As another poster said, the tournament is about matchups but it's also about seeding. If we pull at 8 or 9 then this team won't make a Sweet 16 because they aren't beating a 1 in the 2nd round if they even see a 2nd round game. The best we can hope for, in my opinion is a 6 seed but I just don't see that happening. I am expecting an 8 or 9.

Losses to Kansas and Colorado might get us a better deal with a 10/11 seed. Heck a second loss to KSU might even bump us to the 10 line. Right now we are 8/9, no doubt about that. A loss to Kansas doesn't effect things. Kansas State will be playing for their lives should we draw them in round 2 of the Big 12 tourney.

Since before the season started, I've consistently posted that we better use Dex this year because we'd lose him to the draft. And, I've consistently got ripped for it. Despite his mixed results, I still think that he would be drafted on potential.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he comes back. With another year of work and more shooters around him, he could have a monster year.
