Port Forwarding

OK, so I know I have to tweak with my router and do some port forwarding so my BitTorrent downloads do not continue to crawl at under 10k/sec. I have a SpeedStream DSL Router (to SBC) and a Netgear wireless router hooked to that.

Where do I begin and how do I know I'm getting anywhere?

u need to goto your router webpage.. which will probably be something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

from there after you log in you can forward ports to your internal ip..

start->run, type in cmd
and then type ipconfig
which should give you your internal ip.

Try setting up the torrent client so that it uses another port other than 6881 or whatever. try 60000 range, some trackers do not accept the default ports anymore.

No what trackers do is that they well track both the IP address and port. You can use any port you wish as long as it does not disrupt your system and the tracker will keep track.

The reason why they deliberately block the default ports may be because of ISPs, grievers, leechers or n00bs. To tell you the truth I had to change it for a very big pr0n torrent site and I have had no problems with ports in that range with other trackers.
