Port Arthur Summer League

Well, so me and my buddies get a team together to stay in shape mainly and play some competitive basketball. We enter the Port Arthur Summer League like we've done dozens of times, and we know we'll be playing some talented players like always. But last week's game kinda tells you what kind of talent PA has in basketball.Opposing team's starting lineup:BJ Tyler G (UT, 76er's 1st rd draft choice)
J'covan Brown
G (UT recruit, when is he supposed to be on campus anyway?)
Omar Sneed
F (Memphis, Player of the Conference his Sr. year, played overseas)
Stephen Jackson
F (Golden St. Warriors)
Thad "Doc" Sanders
C (Texas Tech, all conference early 80s)

Needless to say we didn't pull out the win, but we did cover the spread only losing by 8. I sure hope J'covan pulls it together and makes it on campus.

I don't think I could come up with four guys I know that, together with me, could stay within 8 points of that team in a 4 minute game.

Well I'm getting over the hill (33) so we got an infusion of youth. We have 3 guys currently playing low level JUCO with a little height (6'7" and 6'5"). Everyone one on our team can shoot it from 3 as well. We shot well, and I'm sure they can step it up at any time. The next time we play them probably won't be as pretty. But we did shoot well the whole game.

Omar usually plays at Fonde for the Pro City Summer League, which started last Monday. I read some accounts of the first two games and Stephen Jackson played as well.

The PA League is on Thurs evenings. There is alot of young area talent in the league as well. Pretty good entertainment when 2 talented teams square off.

I heard Sneed regularly beat Rashard Lewis one on one.

Man, there could 8 of us and I'm not sure we'd stay within 8.

Snead is a hoss on the block. I'm not sure many outside of someone 6'10" could handle him. But like the rest of us, he's getting old. In his prime he was a beast. So was Luke Jackson out of West Brook (Syracuse).

He's as talented as this area has seen in a long time, which is saying something. He's a combo guard who does a lot of things well. He really is very polished for his age. He plays very under control as well. Having said all that, I really wonder if he'll ever make it to campus. He's had grade issues, and his attitude is probably the worst I have ever seen from a D1 talent. I hope he can get his head on straight, but I seriously have my doubts about that ever happening.
