Headed down there on Thursday until Sunday. Any recommendations on restaurants or any concerts that are going on this weekend?

I looked online but didn't really find anything helpful...figured I could come here and get all the info I need.

Thanks

Port Aransas has some really outstanding places to eat. It really depends on what you want and what you want to spend and what kind of atmosphere. Kids or no kids?

They don't really have "concerts" in PA, but there are usually some local bands that do some pickin. Occasionally they have someone you might have heard of, but its not the norm. More like some guys playing in the corner of a bar.

Nick my pal, we agree! There are a couple of others, but none with the atmosphere of being on the water. Of course, one could always end up at Sharkey's (skank city). Hey, we need to meet up sometime at BP and ogle some chica's and maybe catch a pescado or dos...

Of all the crazy things going on in my life, I think I just got press-ganged into chaperoning a bunch of boys (who don't need chaperoning) on Sunday for a couple of days.

I thought it might be the first year in my life with no PA fix. I'm a little reticent since I left PA almost exactly 1 year ago to the bay and spent a large amount of time out of commision. I have NO IDEA how I drove home only to end up hours later here I did. Kinda like returning to the scene of a crime.

For lunch goto shells and get the tuna tacos and/or tuna sandwich.

For dinner goto one or all of the following: IMO you cant go wrong with any one of these, they are all awesome.
Lisabellas
Venetian Hot Plate
Cafe Phoenix
Buellas aka Pelican Club
Rajun Cajun

Note that lisabellas, cafe phoenix, and i believe venetian hot plate are all BYOB. They all charge a small corking fee but you can bring anything from scotch to wine. All are between 20-35/plate but bringing your own booze really offsets the cost if youre worried about the price.

I like snoopys for fried fish.

Virginias for atmosphere, drinks, and decent to good fish.

Crazy Cajun for crawfish and shrimp.

There are some great markets to get fresh fish to cook at your condo. The one we go to is called the Port A seafood market on the same side as the IGA grocery store.

Virgina's on the bay for the Fish Sandwich... and only the fish sandwich. Mainly as you get the same amount of fish on the sandwich as you will on the dinner plates. We usually try to go early around 5 pm so we can get a decent table and then I walk over with the kids to see the catch coming in off the party boat.

Back Porch is the only place with music- check out portaransas.org for more info and a calendar.

I will say that the water is as pretty as I have ever seen it this year. The high that is killing central Texas is making the coastal waters a beautiful green and virtually no sea weed. Fishing in the surf was decent last week from the fishing report I got from my buddy.

If you go down near the Corpus end of things, Snoopy's is fun on the bay, but the real gem is DragonFly shich is in the strip center next to the liquor store as the causeway hits the island. Worth the drive for a top notch meal with good portions and cheap corking fees if you have your own vino.

Shells is pretty good and usually has some good specials but it's tiny.

If you are gong with kids go down toward Corpus and go out on the Packery Channel Jetty, it's got to be the nicest jetty to walk out on in all of Texas. Nice and flat with railing all the way out to the end. You will likely see some sea turtles and as clear as the water has been who knows what else.

We used to go and grab lunch at the bright orange seafood market on your left as you come off the ferry, Oceans of Seafood. Service is usually slow, but you can bring in your own booze and that makes the wait more tollerable.. Since it's a seafood market the stuff is as fresh as you are goiing to get. Simple fare, but tasty, and did I mention you can BYOB?

Go out either early or very late to avoid the lines. We usually go out on Thursday and one night just for the hell of it, but I hate waiting. Some places have call ahead and you might check into that.
