Pool Remodel

Anyone have any experience with an Austin/Round Rock area swimming pool remodeler.
Ours is over ten years old and starting to show some age.
This is an inground plaster pool and would likely need new coping, decking and such.
Anyone?

I don't live in Texas, but I can give you a little advice on decking and coping. I recently had some stamped concrete work and contractors wanted about $12 per square foot. Stamp work is pretty simple. The colorant is not too expensive and stamping is pretty fast (2-3 hrs). 1200 sq ft. at about 4" thick should take around 14.5 yards (length in ft. * width in ft. * thickness in ft./27). The cost for concrete should be around $90/yard so the actual cost for materials should have been around $1400. I got someone who was bad and paid around $6000. The quotes I was getting ($12 per square ft. * 1200 sq. ft) were around $14000.

At $14000 there is no way I would have gotten stamp work. I would have paid about $3000 for flagstone and would have hired a couple of masons for about 5 days at about $30/hr. = $3000 + ($30*8hr*5days*2people = $2400) + (60 bags of Type S mortar at $6/bag + $40 for colorant = $400)=$5400.

The main reason that I didn't go the flagstone route is the mason that I know is extremely slow because he only comes over when he feels like it and doesn't work long when he does come over. With the stamp work, I knew it could be done quickly and without my involvement.

You shouldn't need much compacting but I imagine that it is expensive to jackhammer your current deck and dispose of the cement. I think there is a process though where they can add to your current deck. I am not familiar with the method though. I guess you could do the same thing with flagstone, but it would add about 3 inches to your current deck height. This could be a problem because skimmers and autofill need to be an exact distance from the top of the deck.

I live and work in the Dallas area, but I just got finsihed remodeling my brothers pool in Austin. I know a tile and coping man and also a plaster man. They both did a great job for me and I would be glad to give you their numbers.
If you would have done this two months ago I would have been happy to help you with your pool. Send me a PM on what you want and I will try and help you.
