Ponson question

Although ponson was a cancer in the clubhouse, he was putting together a pretty nice season with the Rangers. Why didn't we attempt to trade him for any sort of prospect rather than just releasing him and getting nothing?

My thought was that they wanted to let him go RIGHT NOW. Thus, there was no time to start shopping him for a trade. Maybe they could have played it a little better, but with his recent reputation, they probably concluded nobody would give them anything for him. But that's just MHO.
