AP Poll

Horns jump to #6 and even get the same number of #1 votes as UConn-one.

Sunday's game vs #4 Tenn should be an awesome experience for the team. Hope we triple or quadruple our normal attendance for that game.

Not sure how Stanford got more points than us, but I will not harp on that. IF we beat Tenn on Sunday I think we will have made a heck of a case for #1 team in the country. I cant think of anyone else that will have amassed two top 5 wins through their first 5 games.

Attendance side note: If we don't fill the lower bowl I would be extremely disappointed for the program and the girls because its clear they have put together the time and work this off season and they should be rewarded with an absolutely electric atmosphere. Its a Sunday so the students should be back and well rested. Looking forward to it.

I am left wondering whether the voters actually see any games...I cannot help but to be left shaking my head at how a Stanford team that beat UConn is below them but above the team (Texas) that knocked Stanford off of the lofty top perch. And to see UCLA in the receiving votes category? How? They are oh-for-the-season..a big goose-egg...a donut hole. Granted, it was only four points worth of votes, but still...

By no means do I believe that Texas should have gone to the top, but the rankings just leave me

I have my 3 tickets. We got to support this team. They are doing a Outstanding Job.

While the two road wins were great, as is the Top 10 national ranking, attendance isn't going to just boom overnight, even with a program like Tennessee coming town. Most Longhorn fans (in general) probably don't even know about the road wins.

With the game being on Sunday afternoon at 5:30, still lots of folks/students out of town and travelling back after the their holiday trips. NFL games on the tube, and lots of folks out getting started on their Christmas shopping.

Based on the attendance over the last 2 seasons, I think 5,000 fans would be an incredible turnout. Not sure there will be 8,000 fans to fill the lower level.

I see what you're saying MOO although I do think the marketing could be better on the women's side. I'd like to see us take a page out of Dawn Staley's and USC's book. They've grown their attendance tremendously over the past 4 years, even before the on court product warranted it. They now sell over 7500 season tickets. I don't believe for one second that there are more WBB fans in Columbia South Carolina than there are in Austin Texas

I remember being exposed to Lady Longhorn basketball in the late 80's, and was in disbelief as to how many fans showed up to support the team. Just couldn't believe that as a student I had to sit up in the mezzanine level for games against Rutgers and Long Beach State. Even games against Baylor and TCU drew crowds in excess of 5,000 I believe.

But, things changed a lot due to early NCAA tourney exits in the mid to late 90's, Those large crowds stopped turning out. Less and less fans each year. A slight resurgence in the early 2000's was good to see.

My point is that it will take time to have fans return to the arena regularly. Fans want a good return (quality product) for the money they spend on sports entertainment. Even the men's team faced a drop in ticket holders in attendance the last couple of seasons. The better and more consistent Coach A's program gets, the more fans will turn out. If the fans turned out in the 80's in droves, it can be done again.

Coaches poll has Texas at #9. Ladies just need to keep winning to prove themselves. Can't wait for Sunday!!
