PODS moving

Has anyone used the PODS moving system?

It seems like a pretty nice idea that is economical. But I keep wondering if I am missing something. From what I can tell, it allows me to pack at my own pace, have the materials shipped to the city I am moving to and then store things until I am ready to unpack. Anyone have personal experience?

I used them here in Dallas. Not bad. They were on time. If I recall correctly they try to charge a pretty high rate while they store your stuff. If you are using it just to move things in a short time, not bad at all.
The truck they have is actually pretty cool.

I used one, but not from PODS, I think it was a U-Pack or something from ABF.

They got my stuff from Austin to Southern California and I don't believe anything was broken. I think the total trip took 5 days.

My only suggestion would be to make sure you pack it tight from the bottom up to account for shifting.

i used it and it works well. the rate for storage isn't really bad as it's comparable to self storage facilities of the same size. had it delivered to the new house and unpacked it fine. you have to really think about how you're going to pack it up though because it has to be moved around a lot. so you have to make everything very stable and use straps to secure things. never had a problem with them, they showed up on time for drop-off and pick-up. they were able to deliver within 3 days of when i requested it.

If you live in a condo or townhome check your HOA rules first. When I lived in a condo, it was against the rules. One owner used one and the loading/unloading tore up the (common area) asphalt parking lot pretty good. Thus, they passed a rule disallowing them. Might want to make sure it lands on concrete.

Thanks guys. It sounds like a pretty good system. We are moving from a house to a new city where we will likely live short term in a sublet apartment until we know the area better. Seems perfect for this situation until we buy a new house.

If that's the case (needing storage for medium term) then I would have it 'dropped' @ a storage facility & then go back to storage to get the important things.

They charge a much higher rate for storage than somewhere like an "Uncle Bob's" or other similar storage places.

Used them last year to move my mom to Alabama. Worked great, no complaints, just have a lot of rope on hand to secure everything inside so it doesnt shift around. She said there was nothing broken when she unloaded in 'Bama.
