PMP Certification

I graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 2002. I was immediately hired at a major tech company. Over the last 6+ years, my responsibilities have shifted from 100% engineering to 90% project management / 10% engineering. It wasn’t so much a personal choice, so much as a shift in how my industry operates (off-shoring many tech jobs).

Given how much time I’ve spent project-managing, I though it made sense to get the PMP certification. I took care of all the prerequisites and I plan to take the test in the coming weeks.

Assuming I pass (I think the pass rate is roughly 60%), I’m curious how marketable an engineer with a PMP cert is? What kind of career paths does this open up?
