Playing Subs

Why in the world doesn't Barnes play the end of the bench subs the last few minutes with a 20 plus lead???

I didn't get to watch or listen to the game. So I shouldn't respond but will do so nonetheless!

This isn't H.S.; nor is it a typical year at the 40. The depth is so substantial that minutes are going to be hard to come by. RB needs to work the top 9-10 players as much as possible. They will (and should) see most of the time. And few if any of them will get the minutes they want.

I for one enjoy the embarrassment of riches on this team but there is a downside. And if you're at the bottom of the ladder, you're going to be more hard-pressed than ever to see the floor.

He played 12 guys, eight for fewer than 20 minutes. As noted above, there just aren't that many minutes available for walk-ons because they're still working things out ahead of playing UNC and Michigan State.

And minutes will be even harder to come by when Jai Lucas becomes eligible.

You can't be serious.

1. Nine players got more than 10 minutes.
2. Four others got 4-6 minutes.
3. Only one player (Bradley) was on the court more than 30 minutes.
4. In a year when we are supposed to make a serious run at the Final Four, we're counting on substantial contributions from 3-4 guys that have never played a significant amount of time at the college level.
5. And, oh, by the way, we play the Tar Heels on Saturday.

And you are gonna complain about playing time for the end of the bench

I agree with the OP. 2 or 3 minutes at the end of the game will make absolutely no difference in preparing for the future. Give me a break. Play the scrubs a little. It hurts nothing and gives them a reward for all the practice they put in.

The walk-ons "reward" is to be on the team...not playing time. Those guys know when they come here they may never step on the floor, and that suits them fine. They get to be part of a top 5 program. Watch duke or UNC or Kansas and let me know how much their walk-ons play...

This is a stupid post and shows how some people that post on this board have little to no knowledge of basketball. Come on guys....

I wouldn't say they come here knowing they may never see the floor. That isn't true at all. They come here knowing they won't play in most games and will only see mop-up duty when they do play, but Barnes has established a pretty good tradition of playing walk-ons and even giving at least one of them a scholarship for their senior year.

The problem is that the dynamics of this year's team are different. In the past, we haven't really had a surplus of talented freshmen who needed polishing and also had to battle veterans for PT. This year, we have too many young players who need those minutes. The "guys at the end of the bench" aren't going to be counted on in March. Bradley, Hamilton, Brown, Williams, etc., are, and they need all the experience they can get.
