Playgrounds are too safe?

Not only have our playgrounds become "too safe" but many schools/parents/etc just freak out if a kid even gets a scratch on him.

You'll see more of these kinds of articles in the years to come as the consequences of our way to many politicly correct laws meant to make things equitable or safer or more fair. I just wonder which side of the aisle all these "safe playground" ideas came from?

Before long you'll probably see a story of doing away with grades or class rankings cause kids might get "upset" cause they aren't ranked high.

I say it's time to re-toughen up our kids.

People afraid of legal expenses are the ones responsible for safe playgrounds. Not really a bad thing when you look into how many serious injuries and deaths have been caused by unnecessarily dangerous playgrounds over the years. Dr. Frost at UT is the leader in all aspects of playground safety.

The problem with kids and toughness has little to do with what is on the playground and more to do with how much time is spent doing anything remotely physical. And no, wii doesn't count.

Attached is a recent study on college grade inflation. since 1960, the amount of A's given has risen 26 or 28%. I can tell you from personal experience that the crop of college kids looking for jobs are not getting any smarter.

How would you like to teach at that school? I couldn't keep my kids from running on the playground if I tried. Hell, I can't keep them from running in the school half of the time.
