Some information...

1. For local high school.
2. 5:00-7:00PM time frame.
3. Lots of kids.
4. On city property.
5. People are not opposed to bringing some stuff.

My wife wants me to go the traditional grill route (brats, hot dogs, burgers). However, we have done a lot more in the past (chili cookoff, smoker stuff, baked potato bar, etc.)

I would like something fun and enjoyable for all ages.

Ideas?

Is this for a Friday or Saturday game? That makes a difference...

I would also suggest something that will involve the kids, i.e. get them to help. Makes them invested in the process as well as the final outcome & they will be happier vs. just showing up & eating your grub.

Finally, is this a "home" or an "away" game? Whose facility is it? How far away are you going? Is anyone else contributing to the process (i.e. parents)?

Don't forget, you can't go wrong with a Jaeger machine...

Yeah, ROX is on the right track. High school kids love ice block shots and a natty light is a good "starter beer" for them.

Seriously though, will they all show up at once or trickle in and out?

This is a home game, close to the field.

I like the idea of washers. I can get that done.

I'm thinking of going with a "Make Your Own Kebab". I will supply the stuff (steak, chicken, shrimp, vegetables, etc.), and they will supply their own drinks, finger foods, and desserts.

Thoughts?

Who is the other team? You can always theme it up, i.e. if they're the Sharks, grill some swordfish & call it shark meat.

& How are you going to get the kids involved in a participatory manner?

I think that a bunch of kids doing "make your own kabob" sounds like a nightmare with regard to cross contamination.

It's families, not kids. I guess I should have specified. Maybe I will just let them write their order down, have someone prepare it, and me grill it. Good thoughts on the cross contamination.

The kids will be playing normal high school kids football games -- tackle the man with the ball, don't let the girl know that you like her, running around playing tag, etc.

How should I avoid cross contamination? Hand sanitizer for the people preparing the kebabs? Clorox wipes?

Thanks for giving me some ideas.

should be o.k. with adults, but you do want to have wipes out. clorox will do the trick, but may be stong for some.

my main concern was that kids didn't ned to be handling raw meat, since half of them wouldn't wash, and then the problems start.

If the kids won't be doing the cooking (i also thought they would be little kids) you'll be fine.
