Places to get live crawfish

I'm in Houston and am thinking about having a boil since the temp hit 70. Anyone know where I can get live crawfish for not too expensive this early in the season? I'm willing to drive out to Winnie or something if that helps on price.

Louisiana Foods, 713-957-3476.
4410 West 12th Street

I think they have a shop you can purchase them right there.

Anyone have an Austin connection? We're set to have an "open to all" thing about a week or two after the Spring Game (see thread for "smoker invitational") & I want to see about some bugs.

I don't know if this is still the case, but there was a problem with countries in Southeastern Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia) flooding the American market with mudders & I refuse to get my bugs anywhere but E Texas / Louisiana / Mississippi).

PS: If anyone is heading W from LousyAnna, that would be best.

in austin, sambets

the owner drives to louisiana himself and brings the sacks back. thats where i get mine for boils.

eat lunch while you're there picking up your crawfish

quality will have them, but i had a bad experience with them such that i wont go back

NCAAFBALLROX - I can tell you that the HEB by my house (Louis Henna) had them 2 days ago. I don't know if all the HEB's have them now, or if the quality is good.

NOS, where's your ditch?

I've even snagged a few out of Barton Creek about 1 mile up towards the headwaters W of MoPac. Freaked out the girls who were swimming in that particular part (well past Sculpture Falls).

If I want cheap live crawfish in Austin, then I go to Fiesta. If I want large live crawfish, I go to Quality Seafood.

And the SE Asian and Chinese crawfish are all frozen tails, not live crawfish.

Austin Seafood on Airport. Call ahead on during the week to order them. Cheaper than Quality, better than Fiesta. They even purge them for us. We used to do Sambets before we found Austin Seafood. Had a couple of bad orders, so make the switch.

No extra charge. Their prices are by far the lowest we have found. And we don't end up throwing half the sack away.
We have been buying from them for the last 5 years nearly every weekend they are in season.

Damn, I'm glad Austin Seafood is cheaper than Quality Seafood on Airport Blvd. All this time I thought they were one and the same.
