Need to know where to dine at Jackson and also in the grand Teton area. We like the ma and pa types of places, and would love to dine with a view of the mountain range near the lakes or the Snake River.
Ideas?
Our favorite two dining places in Jackson are the Blue Lion (307/733-3912) and the Cadillac Grille (307/733-3279). The Blue Lion has high end food and located in an old house. The Cadillac Grille is a locals favorite. It sits on the town square (famous for the elk antler arches) and has a "nice section" for a more formal dinner, bar area with a full menu for casual dining, and a separate hamburger restaurant (Billy's ?). Billy's must be good because once we were in the bar and a grease fire broke out in the Billy's kitchen, requiring the fire dept. and an evacuation. I would categorize Cadillac Grille as a "ma and pa" place, but not The Blue Lion. Neither has the view you are looking for though.
My best guess for a meal with a view would be at one of the restaurants in Teton NP. The park food has never impressed me, but at least you get the ambiance of sitting in a beautiful place while dining. The park restaurants would not be "ma and pa" variety either, but you might have a bus load of them dining next to you.
I will mention one restaurant that offers all that you are requesting, except for the Jackson part. If you are in Jackson for a while and expect to drive around the Teton-Yellowstone area, there is a restaurant in Island Park, Idaho at the Henry's Fork Lodge (208/558-7953). The menu changes daily and is all fixed price. A three course dinner ranges from $32-$35. You can sit outdoors overlooking the Henry's Fork, which is the north fork of the Snake River. Across the river is the Targhee-Caribou National Forest, so you can see plenty of wildlife. We've seen osprey, bald eagles, marmots, moose, and trumpeter swans while dining there. If you do go there, be sure to see Mesa Falls on your way.
If you are coming up soon, bring some bug spray; the mosquitoes rule the night. They aren't doing too bad during the day either.
Whenever we are up there our family always does one dinner at the Granary Restaurant at Spring Creek Ranch. It is more of a semi-pricey, nice meal place though. A few mile outside of Jackson; does have a good view.
I am also a big fan of Dornan's in Moose, near the park enntrance. Casual bu good food, and you can sit outside staring straight across the lakes at the Tetons.
The restaurant at Jackson Lake Lodge is not bad either. The lounge has a huge window with great views of the Tetons.
