Pittman: best center performance since...

It was funny cause Mihm got the flu the week before that LSU game and was sick as a dog against Swift. The next week Swift had the flu and was sick as a dog as LSU lost, I thought that was ironic.

Mihm had more than a handful of "15 and 15" games, usually 6-7 a season during his sophomore and junior years.

Pittman isn't anywhere near Mihm in footwork and finesse, just as Mihm wasn't anywhere near Pittman in brute strength. It's definitely apples and oranges, but I'll take the AA Apple over the orange at this point, due to stamina and overall game.

Apparently LSU is just a bad post matchup for us in the NCAA Tournament, as they've destroyed the two best centers we've had at Texas in recent years. First with Stromile Swift abusing a flu-weakened Mihm, and then Big Baby and Tyrus Thomas taking turns dominating Aldridge.

K-State is a TERRIBLE team. The fact that they beat us at home and almost beat us again merely shows how poor our team is this year, regardless of what seed we supposedly are going to be. That game yesterday was lower quality than most high school games. It was embarrassing for both teams--I thought I was watching the Big Ten for most of the time...

"Did Mihm ever have a game like Pittman had? I mean 19 points and 20 rebounds? against a good opponent?"

Chris never had teammates that were able to consistently feed him the ball in the low post like Dex does.

Austin's own Albert Burditt (sic?) has to rank in there somewhere. Rewatch the 1994 second round NCAA game with Michigan and you'll see an absolute warrior who did the impossible by bringing a defensive presence to a Tommy Penders coached team. Burditt hung up a great number of doube-doubles, and was as selfless a teammate as you could have. I still love what that kid brought. Sexy Dexy is sure growing on me!! But I'd take Burditt over him. Man I hope I spelled that dude's surname correctly. It would sound correctly if I were speaking it anyway.

Burdett did some really nice things - he developed a great touch around the basket as he matured.

To compare Dex to Mihm is just ridiculous at this point. Mihm had a complete game, and I do recall a few 20-20 outings (but I don't see box scores on texassports.com so hard to go back and find any). Mihm could drive, shoot from outside and had a good post game as well. I think his junior year he was averaging 20-something points and around 9 rebounds per game. At this point, Dex is a big guy who can dunk and is developing a short hook shot and a pretty nice inside move.

I'm not saying Dex can't get there, but right now it's still about him just being bigger than the other guy. He still has trouble taking care of the ball in traffic and misses a lot of shots he needs to be finishing. Don't misread any of that as a complaint, because he's come as far or farther than anyone I've seen at Texas. But let's not go overboard over a two-game stretch against teams with mediocre inside presences.
