Sure seems to be. I left the gametracker in the third. but it looks like Big Bird got touched for 3 in the 5th and the vaunted Ruffin and Thomas for 3 more in the 6th. Ruffin took the L so I guess he was responsible for the baserunners.
Yikes.
Was the wind still blowing out hard? That might give us a little solace.
The DMN box said no Es. Wonder how that one escaped the scorers notice.
I know its still early and we havent had loads of practice. but this team isnt filling me with confidence. I'm surprised and disappointed that Drew Bishop hasn't had an opportunity yet.
Inconsistent so far on the pitching. After Thursday offense did not do much against Tech either. Not sure if this club is good enough to get to Omaha? Time will tell.
My biggest concern is Wood getting knocked out early is his past two conference starts. Not good. We need an ace to win that first game of the conference series.
Ruffin is coming off a 4 game lay off. His nerves have got to have been tense. We have a great pitching staff,we just need some confidence happening for them. A tight strike zone is tough for any pitcher.
Confidence in pitching only comes from live pitching and being used consistently. If you have a bad inning, develope a very short term memory and continue to strive for excellence.
i think our pitching woes are a little exaggerated. i think wood is the only real concern on the staff, and even he's had just 2 "bad" starts.
i really think friday's relief troubles had a lot to do with ruffin's suspension. tough to come into a tight game after no action in 4 games (a freshman, by the way). wouldn't be surprised if it affected stayton mentally a little bit (another frosh).
green and workman had great weekends. props to them.
kieschnick: 0-11. staff must be doing something right
if anything, we should be asking questions of the offense. thursday was a huge night, but the bats were inconsistent friday and saturday
i still have the faith that the kinks will be sorted out soon. now let's go sweep corn
