Pit Bull/Am Staff FRIENDLY apts?

There are none that I know of in the Austin area. I think your best bet is going to be looking for a private landlord who is 1)dog friendly and 2)level headed who will allow your dog to live with you. Encourage them to meet your dog and decide on a case-by-case rather than breed basis whether or not they should allow your (hopefully well trained) dog on their property.

Every apt complex I've ever lived in has had pit bulls around, but I'm almost positive they were being hidden. You can always do that but you'd better have a back up plan for your dog that doesn't include a shelter if/when you get exposed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hate that there is that bias, although I understand how the media reinforces it. My dogs are the best dogs. They are therapy dogs at nursing homes even. I am just looking for a shot. Right now, I just show up to view apartments and I get a no right away.

Check with the rescue groups here (I assume Whickums has 'em) and maybe they know. I doubt they would put it on their website (either apt. location or the rescue) as too many people would overload them and they would end up with poor owners' dogs and that would end it.

What is your budget? Can you get a roomate and find a house as Whickums suggested? There are some nice areas east of the interstate in the true central Austin area that are not as expensive as you think. A yard would be sooooo nice for you.

I believe that many private landlords have insurance agreements that forbid them to allow pits on the property. I think I read that somewhere at least.....

That's usually the problem with apartment complexes. Whatever insurance carrier they use flat out ban any so-called "aggressive" breeds. Some homeowners insurance carriers do the same. Don't get me started on what a crock of **** it all is.

Rescue organizations of particular breeds will usually list the companies that are not pathetically ignorant and allow all breeds of dogs. I changed my car insurance because the home insurance branch of that company did not allow my breed of dog. I won't do business with a company like that. I pay about the same after some research and am with a company that is not so narrow minded.

I was told by a complex in Austin that Weimaraners were on their list. I believe there are collectively something like 75 breeds that are restricted in some part of the nation. Refuckingdiculous.

Border Collies too. Although my BC will bite your *** if you don't act right so maybe they are correct.

Border Collies kick ***.

The only problem you should have living with them is if you want to take an apartment near a Frisbee distributor.

Horrible on security, but the best freakin' dogs I have ever had.

that said, I sympathize with the thread originator and don't agree with the media driven biased that he be navigating through, here.

When we were dating my (now) wife had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier & lived in an apt. off of Mopac/Metric area. It wasn't a great apt., but the Walnut Creek trail ran right through it which was nice for exercising her dog. I'll point her to this thread & see if she remembers the name of the place.

You can have her put up a pic of the dog too if she has one. What a fantastic breed of dogs. I love AmStaf's.
