Picnic Spots in or around Austin

Coming to Austin Memorial Day weekend and I'll be bringing the girlfriend. I'm looking for a cool/romantic spot in Austin or surrounding area to have a picnic? I've only been back to Austin a few times since moving away 8 years ago and I know Austin and vacinity has changed some since then.

When I lived in Austin, I went to Hamilton Pool or Perdenales State Park a couple of times. Are both of the areas still in good shape?

Hamilton Pool is a nice choice. Most people are pretty impressed on first viewing.

Now with Memorial Day weekend it will be very crowded. Go VERY early. If the weather is nice it gets full very quickly. The romance is killed when you are sitting in a hot car for an hour waiting to get in.

The Austin Nature and Science Center, which backs up to the Botanical Gardens, has some picnic areas, plus a small zoo. They have some rescued animals like coyotes, bob cats, owls, etc and a pond where you can feed the fish.

it's cliche.. but you could always do Mt. Bonnell.

Mayfield Park in West Austin off 35th and Mt. Bonnell Road is nice, quiet, and romantic. (Near Laguna Gloria). Has peacocks, landscaped ponds, footbridges, etc.

Maybe i am a party pooper, but Enchanted Rock in the summer is not a lot of fun. Too friggin' hot and no shade/cover.
