Photoshop Elements question

I bought Photoshop Elements 3.0 a few years back and installed it on my desktop. Today I installed it on my laptop as well. I've never had any problems with it on my desktop, but on my laptop, when I try to download pictures from my camera, it almost finishes downloading and then I get this message:

"There was a problem opening the catalog named "My Catalog." Another user or application may have the catalog open, or one or more files may be missing, out of date, or damaged. Attempt to compact and recover this catalog, then open again?"

So I say ok. Then it says "Catalog recovery completed successfully." I click ok.

Then an "open catalog" dialog box opens. I select it and click "open." This gives me the same error message I started with.

I used the same CD to install Elements on my laptop as I used on my desktop, so I'm not sure how the file could be corrupted. Anyone have any ideas? I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, but no luck.
