Phog Allen

While watching the start of the KU/KSU game on Saturday I found myself wishing that we had that kind of atmosphere at the Drum. I know no one else has either. Some come close (Duke, NC, Kentucky etc). But that atmosphere is AWSOME! ! ! Made me appreciate the win there all the more ! ! ! No harder place to play in basketball. We need to ratchet it up some at the Drum.

Some dude's signature on this board is the Horns standing at the gate at phog, looking up into a sea of blue.

It looks pretty intimidating I must admit. The FEC just isn't a good college basketball venue. It's too spread out.

We should start playing in Gregory

Phog Allen is a fieldhouse - they're basically playing in a big gymnasium. Try as you might, there is no way that an arena will ever have the same atmosphere as you get in a gym.

I remember a few years ago in Sulphur Springs the school hosted a pre-playoff triple-header with some of the top playoff-bound teams from the region playing each other. The gym probably couldn't hold 2,000 people, it was SRO around the court and outside in the hallway, and the place was just electric. Amazing atmosphere - and it wasn't even an actual playoff game. Put the same fans in the Erwin Center and you've got an afternoon matinee crowd.

I was a student when the Drum was built. It was lauded, but we didn't realize what we were losing by moving out of Gregory. The games at Gregory totally rocked!

the Phog was amazing but the UT Fire marshall would not let us put that many people on top of each other under today's building codes and life safety standards

They showed one crowd shot at the FEC on Sat and it was a sea of blue hair. It looked like the dance of the living dead. Give those seats to students and you will get a more intimidating atmosphere.

I would like to know from somebody who has seen games at both Phog and Cameron to compare. I have not been to Phog Allen but have been to Cameron Indoor. I don't know how Phog could be more hostile, loud or into the game than Cameron. I would accept them being about the same but Cameron was pretty freaking amazing.

I would say there are about six or so venues on about the same rung of the support and spirit ladder. We are the ones holding the bottom of the ladder to make sure it does not tip over.
