Going up to see my beloved Reds play the phillys then a 3 day trip to Atlantic City. Going to tour Philly that 1st day, catch the Reds that evening, then leave early the next morning to AC. What are the must see things downtown, when only spending 1 day there. Helpful hints about AC also welcome.

Not sure if you are interested in history or art, but here are a couple thoughts:

Go down into South Philly and have a steak at Gino's or Pat's. Yes, it's touristy, but they are good and that is what you doing.

On the way back to center city, stop by the Italian Market.

Go to Indpendence National Historic Park. See the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross' House, Christ Church. You need a ticket to the Independence Hall tour (1/2 hour tour) Visitor Center is at 5th and Market.

Go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Run up the steps. Take a picture. You gotta do it. The collection inside is good too. You need to drive or take a cab. It's about 10 minutes from Independence Hall.

AC: Go to the Borgata. Don't leave.
