Phil Steele's Bowl Matchups...

Check these bowl predictions out. If this happens, I'll throw up in my mouth:

BCS Championship Game: Ohio State v. Florida

Fiesta Bowl: South Florida v. OU

Holiday Bowl: Texas v. Cal

First of all, please don't let Ohio St embarass itself again. The BCS should create an "anti-Notre Dame" rule to keep Ohio St. out of the MNC game.
Secondly, OU in the Fiesta Bowl against some third-world team? Again?
And, please not another Holiday Bowl...

I know it's early, but seeing something like this in print saddens me.

I guess I'm just sick of playing in the Holiday Bowl. Don't get me wrong. It's generally the best non-BCS bowl. I just wish that the bowls weren't so tied to specific conferences.

BCS bowl aside, I'd love to see TX play somewhere out East so that I could attend.

Yes, I suppose it is easier, considering that a single team has done it 5 of the last 8 seasons.

For comparison, 8 different teams have won the Big Ten since '99.

Can't disagree generally, but OSU does play USC next year. If they go undefeated in conference and beat USC they would be worthy.

Oklahoma has not had any trouble at all dominating the Big XII over the past 8 years, including 6 South division "crowns." But the cream of the conference has had plenty of trouble NOT getting blown out in bowl games or suffering embarrassing losses to mid-majors. What am I leaving out?

Strength of conference is generally cyclical. The Big XII is not always a tough go, especially as the North has often been ******* laughable and/or, like the Big X, it is not a true round robin.

If tOSU needs a special rule to keep them out because they went 1-2 in champ games over the last six years then we might as well follow up on futility by banning everyone who hasn't won twice or played for it four times, because only the team who has played for it more than three times or won it more than once can claim better bona fides that tOSU. They certainly aren't the only team to have backed in, played without winning (or being in) a conference title game, etc.

Meanwhile, a bit early to start handing bowl games and sinking emotion into who putatively goes where.

Ahhh, the horse latitudes of the off-season.

FWIW, Steele had us in the Alamo vs. Michigan - allegedly.

An 8-4 season with a 9th win vs. Michigan would be fine with me. I don't think NU will overtake MU - at least not this year - so I'd be fine with that season.

The Pentaconta Bowl Prediction Service (motto: "our guess is as good as theirs") predicts that Texas will win the BCS Championship Bowl this year.

Seriously, with all the inexperience and the tough schedule going into 2008, I will be pleased (though not satisfied) with a Holiday Bowl bid.

That's third world in terms of perception and history. I don't think too many people would argue that Boise St of a couple of years ago was a pretty damned good team. The fact that they were Boise State gave the perception that OU lost to a "crappy" team.
