Phil Jackson: greatness

Lakers looked to me like they were going down again last night, but then Phil put in the pick 'n roll, come off the pick n roll straight up the middle to the basket in the fourth quarter, and finally, some separation.

Also Phil gets credit for putting in that young guy, made at least two critical shots in the third leading up to the fourth.

I feel a lot better now. Lakers win, it doesn't matter 6 or 7, but now they have found a strategy to work with that doesn't require Kobe scoring 35+ points.

I feel better too 'Cat', but I still won't be surprised if LA goes down by 20 in Denver.

I'm more concerned about Odom than the pick-n-roll.
If Odom brings it like he did last night, 'we' can't be beat.
But if LA comes soft again, its gonna be a long night.

Walton is a liability - can't make a layup. Fisher and Farmar are good for a handful of airballs per game. Kobe, Gasol, and Ariza are all playing well - but they need a little consistency from others, (Vujacic, Odom, .....)

In my worthless opinion.

Denver played poorly most of the game and still had a chance to win. They kept up with the Lakers for most of the game. They made a bunch of turnovers, and missed too many free throws. I didn't expect Denver to win in LA, but they had a chance. We'll see what kind of killer instinct LA has in game 6, but I 'll be expecting a game 7.

Someone out of the group of Odom, Ariza, and Fisher (and maybe even all three of them) will have a horrible Game 6, leading to another game in LA.

Everytime I think this Lakers team has it figured out, I find out they don't...only to find out that they do...only to find out they don't...only to...

This LA team is not really sound from the standpoint of playoff basketball. They don't hustle on D consistently and they aren't that physical. Anything can happen to them based on how well role players shoot. Jackson can only do so much.

Orlando is a tough matchup for anyone, especially Cleveland. Boston drummed the Lakes because they got shooting from long players on the perimeter (Posey). Rashad Lewis knows his role. At least the Magic do't have a true point that is tough to deal with.

also agree with buck, Phil is the reason they have come this far. I was watching them struggle the first three quarters longing for today's version of Michael Cooper.
Where is he? We need him badly.

Back to Phil. If he can win a championship with this team, he is IMO the best NBA coach of all time. I believe right now is tied or almost tied with Red for number of championships.

the role players have all but disappeared this year.
You never know which Lamar Odom will show up and Bynum is still very young.
All this causes me to lose my hair during the playoffs.

As frustrating as Lamar's diappearing act can be, it seems the problem in this series has been his back. I hope they can close this thing out tonight and get some rest.

Yeh Denver just didn't have it in 'em to play a 7 game series with LA. But they are a young team and no reason why they cna't be back next season even better.

Jackson in his 12th NBA finals. Going for his 10th Championship.

bump, ttt, I started this thread before the Lakers closed out the Nuggest, had no idea the Lakers would dominate the last game.

Before the conference finals, I said that the difference in the finals would be coaching and the bench, and I was correct. What I didn't realize was that Cleveland didn't have much for a coach, especially in the fourth quarter.

Phil will be the difference in this series. He will figure out a way to deal with Dwight Howard, and Lakers win the series, I have no idea how many games. Once you neutralize Howard, their 3 point shooting becomes much less troublesome.

They should just give the Lakers the rings. It might go 6 so the Lakers can win it at home. But I don't think it will ever be in doubt.

If Orlando doesn't step up they are going to be swept like they were against Houston. I wonder if Phil will keep coaching if the Lakers win it all. This will give him the record number of NBA wins as a coach at 10. Of course he may want to stay and add on to it to make it hard for his record to be broken.
