Phil Jackson and Mavs/Heat Officiating

He said in his press conference today - when asked about the Donaghy allegations about Refs calling games favorable to one team per NBA direction - that the last event he thought fit that description was when Dwayne Wade "started getting 23-24 calls a game vs Mavs, getting fouls for every bump." Didn't think big Phil liked Cuban but sounds like he sided with him on this.

The play at the end of game 6 is still the most incredible officiating I have ever seen in my life.

The Heat are up one point with the ball, There are about 20 seconds left in the game and Wade has the ball. He drives toward the hoop and just throws in forearm directly into Dirks Chest.

the Proper call is either:
A: Offensive Foul on Wade for throwing a clothesline
B. No Call and let the play go on.

Instead Dirk gets called for a foul and Wade hits two free throws to put the Heat up three points which ends up being the difference in the final game of the series.

There was a youtube of this play somewhere

There were quite a few youtube of the "fouls" called in Wade's favor for that series.
Marquis Daniels "foul" against Wade.
Wade drive and whistle at the end of game 3 or 4 in Miami.
There are plenty of them out there.........or at least there were.

Yeah, Phil saying anything about reffing is kinda funny. The Lakers owe a lot to the refs on during their three-peat. However, the 2002 Game 7 with the Kings was criminal.

On the other hand, Phil is always a good interview and usually gives his opinion in a dignified way. I like him.

I'm glad you mentioned the game 6 Dirk foul--that one always pissed me off but nobody talked about it much. I do think that the end of game 5 was worse, though. I think the refs cost the Mavs the series but the stupid *** Mavs did a good amount of self destructing which certainly didn't help. If Stack hadn't gotten his dumb *** suspended in game 4 perhaps game 5 isn't as close. That whole thing still pisses me off.

My memory isn't great but I thought it was game 7 LA v Portland in the WCF that was horrible and then next year it was game 6 LA v Sacramento in the WCF that was bad. I don't remember game 7 against Sacto being that bad, could be wrong, though.

Was it game 6 or 7 where Kobe elbowed Mike Bibby in the head and Bibby got the foul? How dare Bibby let his head get in the way of Kobe's elbow!

I do't care if it sounds like sour grapes, but the final between the Heat Mavs is what made me decide to not worry about the NBA.

After that series, there is no way the NBA allows Cuban to have a champion, period.

They just lucked out in that they had a bonafide star in Wade to give the calls to.

And i don't mind Jackson saying stuff, he didn't ask for the officials to call games in the lakers favor, i doubt any player or coach has that power. he can only play the hand he's dealt.

I dont like the Mavericks one bit but I agree they were robbed at gunpoint in that Heat series. It was so blatant that I know many folks who gave up the NBA that year

Wade Phantom Foul #2

Wade Phantom Call #3

Wade Phantom foul #4

I realize that refs arent perfect. But these calls are freakishly bad....I mean WWF bad. Whats worse is that you could see they were bad calls with the naked eye.

I think the foul call at the end of game 5 that gave Wade two free throws was pretty despicable, but I could maybe see How a ref could make that call.
These plays I linked above......there is just no excuse to be that wrong.

These calls were all in game 6 after Wade had got every single call the entire series.

I have a feeling that I'll log into Hornfans to comment on the 2019 NBA Finals, and there will still be threads about the Dwayne Wade series.
