I can't see any way that Harvey would be around @ 17 and it doesn't make sense for them to move up in order to get him. Merling is intriguing but the sports hernia could be enough to make the Vikes think twice, esp. given their recent run of bad luck w/ first round defensive picks & injuries (Greenway, James, Udeze).
A pass rushing DE is a need but they've got bigger issues on the OL. Hutchinson's arguably the best guard in football but isn't a spring chicken. McKinnie might be suspended for a few games w/ legal issues. The right side of the line is a joke. And at 32 C Matt Birk is beginning to fade.
If they stay put I can see the Vikes getting Chris Williams or Jeff Otah and then move up in the 2nd round to address needs @ DE/CB.
I would love to see Limas in Minny, but after signing Berrian, I doubt that happens. Hopefully they trade the pick to KC and land Allen. By far the safest bet at DE for this team.
If Limas is around when Tennessee picks, do they take him? Many of the projections have them taking Jackson (even with Limas still on the board), but I wonder if VY will have any influence.
I think it's a done deal that Allen will be traded to the Vikes which obviously takes Limas out of the equation. Allen has told KC he won't sign a long term contract with them so they need to move him while his value is highest. It's down to Minny & Tampa for JA & the Bucs don't have anywhere near the leverage w/ their draft picks.
Minny is offering the #17 pick and the 2nd of their two 3rd rd picks this year (#82) for Allen. KC wants the #17 and Minny's 2nd rd pick (#47). My guess is that the Vikes will send them the #17 and #73 picks and possibly another mid round pick in '09. They also have the option of signing JA to an offer sheet (that KC won't match) & then give up their first round picks in '09 & '10 to KC but Brad Childress has already said they won't do that.
Well, either the Vikes are incredibly smart or incredibly stupid. I guess we'll find out in about 4 months. The Link
Not only did they give up 3 Picks in this year's draft - #17 (1st Round), #73 (3rd Round), and #82 (3rd Round), but also made JA the highest paid defensive player in the NFL with a 6-year, $74 million dollar deal with $31 million being guaranteed.
BTW, Dwight Freeney WAS the highest paid defensive player in the league when he got 6 years, $72 million from the Colts last year.
Wow, that's way too much to pay--both in picks and dollars--for a guy w/ Allen's history of alcohol problems. Still, his addition to the d-line should pay immediate dividends (and for that much scratch he damn sure better perform).
Gotta think they take the best o-lineman or CB available in the 2nd on Saturday.
