Perseid Meteor Shower

I didn't know where to post this, guess Cactus Cafe is adequate.

I'm reading conflicting information on this meteor shower. Does it peak tonight/tomorrow morning or did it peak last night/this morning?

And how much will the 3/4 moon affect visiibility? Is it worth seeing? Where would be a good place to see it near Austin? I have a date.

Funny you should ask. I just looked it up and looks like the peak was this past morning, but the shower continues for more than a week. It seems I always think to look it up just after it happens.

It's cloudy and stormy here in Austin this afternoon, so we may not be able to see the meteors tonight.

I am so sick of rain! Oh, wait...

It peaked this morning. The 3/4 moon by itself would hamper viewing, but add that to light pollution in the city and you won't be able to see much of anything from your home.

Best viewing is to go east from austin until the city lights dim considerably. The showers will "originate" from the north east, so you shouldn't have to go terribly far to get to decent viewing. 3a-5a will be the best time to view as it puts them highest in the sky and takes best advantage of the earth's rotation, all before sunrise starts to creep in.

I went running at 5:20am Wednesday morning and saw three meteors in the span of 20 minutes. Pretty cool. I had not heard about the meteor shower but assumed something like that was happening.

went to the 360 overlook last night. saw dozens and dozens of meteors over the couple hours we were there. the skies cleared up just over our little area. it was amazing
