...is the title of the oped. The author uses the game of chess as a segue to the subject he really wishes to discuss, which is his perception of US foreign policy. My personal opinion is that he isn't far off base. It's difficult to rationalize the actions is Libya, Syria, and Ukraine for that matter given the instability which resulted from the aftermath; not to mention Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Yemen. This analysis gives a rationale, though not one the typical American can stomach. Keep in mind the recent talk by George Friedman where he sees the US having the objective of controlling a corridor from the Baltic to the Black Sea. At any rate, its a depressing but interesting take from the perspective of a Russian analyst.
