Penn Relays ... Good and Bad

Several Texas athletes had very good performances. However two relays really sums it up team wise.

The Good - in the women's 4x400 on the third leg as the runners rounded the last corner the aggy runner somehow managed to hit the Texas runner causing the aggy runner to lose the baton. This is bad as Texas would have been leading the race at the hand off and should have been competitive if not beaten aggy. After the race the aggy said she didn't expect the Texas runner to be that close to her.

The bad - the men's 4x400 team. Unfortunately no where near competitive with the lead pack, much less aggy. Hopefully there is creditable reason.

Bad? Texas Men is not really known for its 400, let alone the 4x400. I think they did a decent job considering that the time would have put them close to the top 10 teams in the nation (if u take just the best times from each university)

Hopefully conditions at conference will be good. A lot of meets both squad have run in, have been kind of harsh running conditions. Hard to gauge where some of them are at, at this point.

Agree that the women ran a great 4x400 and put up a great time. Also good to see the women run a close 2nd to the Ags in the 4x200; it isn't an NCAA event but we're definitely making a lot of progress in the sprints. I think our 4x100 has the fourth fastest time in the country - pretty amazing when you consider we didn't even field a team in that event last year.

Longhorns06 - the issue is you cannot win the Conference if you cannot compete in the relays. This isn't high school where you have to take what you are given.

In conference?? well Texas scores in conference and would only be 4 or 5 points behind A&M after the 4x400. If A&M doesn't win the conference in two wks, it's not because they lost in the Relays. you'll rarely see A&M a threat for DMR too and they may not even score on that event... A&M will likely win if they get contributions from their Field events, which didn't really show up in indoors.

I like the men's squad next yr. They are going to be much improved with the freshmen coming in. I don't think u are going to see the 4x400 any more competitive but the all-around team will make its mark.

If Texas is 4 or 5 points behind aggy after the 4x400 (the last event with aggy as defending champions and sand aggy closer to aggy than Texas) I believe everyone will be satisfied with that result as they were 66 points behind at the same point last year.

That's cool. Whatever yall say.

U know it'd be interesting to see how many ppl that post here actually attend the the smaller sports meets and tournaments like Track, Tennis... I know there's a good follower for Volleyball.... Other sports, maybe not so much. Everyone can do their 'research' (which might not even be right) but...
