Penders-era players coming back for degree

And we had a Penders-like 107 pts today at the game too, and that is a very rare 100+ score these days, though it seemed to happen every 2nd or 3rd game during the Penders "running horns" days.

Sorry to hear of Dexter Cambridge losing his mom.

I still remember the controversy around Cambridge's eligibility. Good for him and good for the others who have come back to finish their degree's. Speaks well of the program that they are trying to get players back to finish.

Kudos to Randa Ryan for staying after the former athletes to get their degrees. It is nice to know the University continues to help them out after their eligibility has ended.

Do these players pay there own tuition at this point or is it somehow taken care of by the univesity? Maybe they still have scholarship money available? just curious

Anybody know anything about Guillermo Panama Myers?

I live in Panama and always keep my eye out for him. No le encuentro para nada.

Tremaine Wingfield had one of the most incredible games I have ever seen in sports.

With 0.8 seconds left against Utah in 1994, down by 3, he takes a full court pass from Brandy Perryman and drains a three to tie the game.

THEN he does the EXACT SAME THING in OT with 1.3 seconds left!!! That one was a 2-pointer that broke a tie and won the game.

I still can't believe that happened 15 years later. A lot of people actually left the Erwin Center before the first inbounds pass, assuming the game was over. One ironic note is that the Utes actually made a huge comeback in the final ten minutes of regulation to even get to overtime in the first place.

Holy crap. Has it been 15 years since that Utah game? ... Really?? .. Man, I have become old in a hurry.

Yeah, I remember the eligibility problem of Cambridge. We were counting on him so much. I remember Penders speaking on radio about having players like Cambridge, and how the 89-90 BMW group was instrumental in putting us on the map. One line from Penders then -- "The big programs keep picking up the McDonalds all-americans. We would be happy with even Whataburger all-americans" ... Something like that

Oh how things have changed at Texas since I left in 1991 ... But the 89-90 running horns are unforgettable. Travis Mays who made "Ocala, Florida" well-known at the Drum .. Lance Blanks .. Joey Wright .. Locksley Colley and Guillermo "Panama" Myers. The block on the Purdue point guard in the NCAAs to go to sweet-16 .. The three-point losses against Nolan "Strollin" Richardson's Pigs. Lance Blanks dancing after drining the highest-arc threes you would evr see against Xavier .. The most popular benchwarmer ever in history, George Muller .. Benford Williams .. When was Sonny "I can fool people in Philippines" Alvarado playing? -- A bit later than that I think ... Anyway, great memories.
