Penalties

For those who do not like to complain about officiating, I do not really like it either, but Big 12 reffing is egregious, particularly with Texas and I have proof.

There are ~130 teams in the FBS. What this is showing is Texas is penalized in the upper 3rd of the nation (left hand column).

Right hand column shows how often Texas opponents are penalized. Literally the bottom of the pile. Literally. Texas opponents DO NOT get holding, PI or roughness called on them and Texas does.

The ironic thing is I remember seeing statistics like that well over 10 years ago. It's not just a 2023 thing. I think it's just a lot more visible for obvious reasons, and probably stepped up a bit too. But Kevin Mar has always been scum.

Sark commented today that we have the two best D Tackles or most dominant pair (see any grading system and this is true) and not ONE holding call has been called against them. Egregious stuff. I think Alabama was called for 2 holdings against us and that is the record. It’s on ongoing issue no doubt, but the exit from Big 12 this year likely brining more to the fore

Ya know? I kinda understand the hatred. It has always been there but this time Texas and ou accelerated the demise,
I would ask EACH other school if given the chance would they have left for another conference that assure their school successes?

The B1G evidently would have taken Texas and ou but we're afraid that sand aggy and oSu would have to go also. Shame on them for that thought.

If Texas and ou had gone to the PAC-12, the Big XII would now be looking like the PAC-12.

Now Texas is stuck with the $EC, so let's hold our collective noses and cash those checks.

Don't skewer me for the question...I'm too busy to do the research...how many holding calls has the Texas OL been responsible over the same period. My aging memory makes me think that holding penalties across the board are not called nearly as often as I'm used to seeing them. Anyone out there have the comparison data?

BLucky, there is holding on almost every play. Since coaches know that no holding penalties will be called unless it interferes with a play. The issue is the application of the rule by the referees.

The referees work for the Conference and want to keep their cushy gig, so they will follow either implied or actual directions from the Conference. For example, this is why some OL's will get called for a fist to the DL's shoulder pads (should be an open hand) and some don't. Also, it is the reason for some OL holding the DL's neck in a headlock with no call.

Look for a lot of penalties to be called in response to this comment and Sark's comment on the Worthy non PI calls, mostly holding and PI against Texas.

I might be in the minority on this, but I'm struck by the comparison of FIFA (especially international games) in that other teams are just better at "selling it" than we are. I'm not saying they're flopping or anything like that, but when Watts' inside arm barely touches Howard as he's going oob, Howard immediately knew what he had to do to draw the 15 yards.

I don't want to become one of those teams where our guys whine about calls, but there's also a line that they can cozy up to and "doth protest." We are back to some of those Mack years in which we plain out-talented the other team. I don't think it'll work 100% of the time, so make the most of those close calls.

We rank #130 in opponents penalty yards per game. Our opponents so far have been flagged for an average of 33.4 yards per game in penalties.

Linky

What I find more egregious than that is when you go look at individual teams, you see their ability to avoid penalties just when playing against us is particularly astonishing. For example, the list below shows the penalties and yardage racked up by Houston in each game they have played this year.

UTSA 3-25
Rice 6-44
TCU 7-60
Sam Houston 11-95
Texas Tech 4-47
West Virginia 7-70
Texas 1-15
Kansas State 6-60
Baylor 6-50

Can you find one game on that list that really stands out from the others?

**** the Big XII and every last one of their cheating referees.

Yes, there's a study elsewhere showing there's less than a 1% chance of the numbers just randomly working out the they do. That's just no possible without intent. Interesting that TCU is #121. If Texas has about double what TCU would normally expect it just further confirms the corruption.

11 do you think it is justbecause Texas and ou are the newcomers?

For OU, yes.

For us, it's the same jealousies that plagued us throughout the existence of the XII. Texas is the big ol' baddy with unlimited money and always gets its way. We water the field and make sure the other team brought the wrong cleats. We turn off the A/C in the visitor's locker room. We make sure the media knows that Nebraska has girlfriend-beaters on the team so they can't go to the national championship. So they stick it to us with scheduling and officiating.

I think there's something about making it "public" that Sweat has never been held. At first thought, everyone is like "that's kind of hilarious because he's 360 pounds and a nightmare." But then you actually start to pay attention to it on the field. Maybe we'll get a call this weekend. TCU got nabbed for two PI calls last year (and a hold on a KR).

Let me get this straight. Our man T,Vondre Sweat, who spends enough time in opposing backfields that they should give him a number, has never been held all year. Wow! That makes perfect sense,,,,to BigXII umpires. That is obscene.
