Pedro and Cock fighting

I didn't see this anywhere on Hornfans, and I think that this is a West Mall issue rather than a baseball issue.

Here is the link: The Link

So what is your take on this video of Pedro?

Its reprehensible and makes me hate the guy even more. However, nothing's gonna happen to him because, as far as I know, cockfighting is legal in the Dominican Republic.

Unfortunately, the worst he'll get is some sternly worded signs on gamedays.

Fondren, what makse you hate Pedro? Just curious. Also, your understanding is correct in that cock fighting is not only legal in the Dominican Republic but very common and completely accepted by the society there. It is not seen as something dirty or shameful at all.

Well, most of my hate comes from him playing for the Red Sox and the Mets, so its not true hate, but he is a cocky SOB. I know cockfighting is common down there, but when you're in the public eye in a country that finds it repulsive, you shouldn't be involved with it and certainly not on video. There's plenty of things that go on in other countries that they may find normal, but I find offensive. This is one of them.

The back of my Pedro Borbon baseball card says, "In the offseason, Pedro enjoys cockfighting."

He obviously shouldn't face any legal consequences since his actions were completely legal but from a morality standpoint, the fact that his actions were legal somewhere does not make his actions any more moral than if he had attended a cockfight here in the US. The only reason this hasn't caused a huge **** storm is because roosters have never been man's best friend.

Now obviously his actions are not quite on par with Vick's because there is no evidence that he was running a large cockfighting operation nor is their evidence of him executing chickens in especially gruesome ways outside of the ring. However, I don't find his behavior any more acceptable than somebody who attends and/or sanctions dogfighting.

Dan Patrick was asking last night, "Would he be given a free pass if he went to Amsterdam, where marijuana use is legal, and then returned to the United States where he tested positive for drug use?

How many of you saying it's just a cultural difference were saying the same thing when Vick's dogfighting was brought to light?
