We are looking for a pediatrician for the soon to be arriving newborn. United Healthcare approved please.

What should we look for, what should we ask? Should we pay for an initial consultation to see if they fit?

What else do we need to know?

This is quite the coincidence. I am interested in a pediatrician in that same area that takes United Healthcare, as well.

P.A.D. - no doubt. There is one in Plano and N. Dallas. The Link

The only problem with United Health is blood drawing, but you will have to ask them about details.

You will find that a team or group of Doctors is one of the most important factors - so you can get in at 9pm M-Sa or on Sun if you have to. There is nothing more frightening for a sick kid than a hospital ER.

couple of things I have found:
- Afterhours protocol: Do you talk to a nurse live? Do you get a callback? At what point do you get to talk to a doctor?
- Visit Protocol: Do you see the doctor always or do you have to deal with a Nurse or Physicians Assistant for some visits?
- Pediatrician's MO: Does the Pede ask lots of questions about your child or does the Pede prefer you come prepared with questions?

You should be able to go to an open house or one-on-one visit to find this out. More than anything, I think the Afterhours protocol has been the most important for us. When we call afterhours, we get directly in contact with the doctor. This is big for our piece of mind.
