i'm looking into buying a PDA...right now i'm considering the Palm Tungsten E...or the Palm Zire 72. anybody have any experience with either of these? another alternative is the Dell Axiom X3.

anybody have an opinion about the HP line? thanks in advance.

I own a Tungsten E and think it's terrific. I've owned 9-10 PDAs since my first Palm Pilot 10 years ago. I've never been sold on Pocket PCs-- part of that's a personal preference, like how a Mac person thinks about Windows. I don't know about the Zire 72, but in general the Tungstens are Palm's more substantial-feeling PDAs. Keep in mind that I'm a middle-aged professional who only uses it for business (except for playing chess), so I don't listen to music, keep or take phtoos, or any of that stuff with mine.

Palms aren't bad, but I like Pocket PCs a lot better. From what I've read, a Dell, HP, or Toshiba (I own an e750) would suit you well.

I just got a Dell Axim x30 a couple of days ago - It will take me a week to really put it through it's paces, but here are my initial thoughts:

Pros:
- I like the fact that it has bluetooth & wifi at such a low (less than $400) price point. Once you start surfing the web with this, you'll wonder how you ever managed to lug your laptop around.

- I can run apps on my PC via the Axim using terminal server.

- If you use Outlook the Windows software integrates better than anything I've seen from Palm.

- Dell sent me a leather carrying case even though I didn't order it.

Cons:
- No camera. I like to take pictures of whiteboard drawings at work, and I'd rather not have to carry an extra device to do so.

- Quality. I can't power up this unit without removing & replacing the battery. After 2 days I'm pretty sick of this routine. I'm calling Dell about this tomorrow but it appears from what I've read on the web that I'll need to get a new one.

After testing many a PDA quite thoroughly and losing data, problems with synchronization, low battery life, sorry displays... I have finally found the perfect solution.

Schnarkle I've tried those before and while I give it high marks for cost & user interface, I've lost plenty of data using those and it's data backup solution sucks.

I agree with the Treo. Don't get a PDA that lacks web, e-mail, and phone, because you will want them and end up with an expensive paper weight.
