PC power supply problem?

My home PC died over the weekend. I left it running and later noticed that it was turned off. I hit the power button but nothing happens, never tries to boot.

I verified that I have power to the outlet. Opened up the box and vacuumed all of the lint out of it and tried again with no different results. I am guessing that the power supply has failed because I hear no fan come on when I hit the power button. The odd thing is, I have a sound system plugged into the integrated port on the mother board and my speakers get a small poping noise when I try to power on. That suggests that some power is getting through.

Could this be a failed mother board instead? I think that I may start with changing out the power supply first. Any ideas?

I would first get another power cord and try to turn on your pc. Also, plug something else in to the outlet to make sure it works. It would be my guess that your power supply is bad, but you should do the things I mentioned to be sure. I would get an enermax as a replacement, unless your pc in still under warranty.

Also, try unplugging the power cord from the wall or surge protector, count to 20, and plug it back in. Sounds crazy, but I've used this trick many times when a system won't boot.
