Paypal question/ ebay scam

If someone pays me via my paypal account, is the money safe or could the possibly do a stop payment or whatever and get it back? I ask because I'm selling something on ebay and someone wants to pay me via paypal to end the listing early and sell them the item, and I'm trying to figure out if that's shady or not. I would obviously not end the auction until I'd received payment.

the money is safe, but if they do an echeck i'd wait for it to clear before sending the item. does the buyer have good feedback? i've sold a lot of things on ebay and never once been hoodwinked, but maybe i'm just lucky.

Once you receive payment through paypal, immediately transfer it to your bank account. That way paypal can't put a hold on those funds should the buyer change his mind mid-shipping.

A signature is always best these days because there are so many buyers who say they didn't receive item, even if you have a confirmation delivery. Believe me, it's work the extra couple bucks to get signature.

if you request signature for delivery, then there's proof it was delivered. if they say they didn't get it, but you can print out the signature, case closed.

I won an auction on ebay yesterday, and sent payment immediately via paypal, along with a message to the seller. No response. Any chance I'm hosed here?

Not sure jimmyjazz... sometimes people are slow. Did the user have a lot of feedback?

I am starting to think there is some kind of scam going on with shipping to the Phillippines. I have received two requests to ship the item there "as a gift" and they are offering to pay double the currect auction amount via Paypal. UPS and USPS do ship to the Phillippines so I didn't think it was a big deal but that just seems shady...

I always immediately withdraw money to my bank account after I get a sale. But never thought about the signature. Makes sense. I assume only on items over $200 or so is it worth it?

Whosehouse, I finally got a response. He said he'll send my stuff out by the end of the week.

Another curiosity -- I won the auction with bidnapper, and I got a message afterwards (either from ebay or bidnapper, I can't remember) saying "congrats, you are the high bidder, but you could still lose -- want to raise your bid?" even after bidding had closed. Is it possible to lose a closed auction for which you were the high bidder?

That email is sent out automatically by Ebay after you make a bid. It was sent before the auction had ended.

I decided to just respond to their question and say that I am still unwilling to ship out of the country. I don't know why it never occurred to me that they were hacked into someone else's account, but that's obviously what's going on. Clearly, BrooklynMom32 isn't going to have me ship a beat up iPhone without a box to her cousin in the Phillippines as a birthday gift and pay $400 for it. Sometimes I really have to question my own intelligence...
At least I didn't fall for it??

Thank Goodness YOU didnt' fall for it. Many people do. Here is the link for anyone interested in learning more:
The Link

You can catch up with the scams going on, plus you will learn who to stay away from.....in general.

Thank you for that link, Mary. Good stuff. I will read through it all over time. I just never bothered with setting up an ebay or paypal account. If ever I want something from there I just have a friend bid and give them the cash for it. They get the credit for it and the feedback and I get the item.

I laugh when I get an email from phishers or scammers claiming that I have a problem on my ebay account. Really? The one I don't have?

I received payment via Paypal for my item, but it says the Paypal is "holding" the funds until the buyer receives the item, because I have less than 100 feedback and the item was more than $100. Is this legit? What should I do?

Be wary- I got a Paypal phishing email trying to get my account info. Always be really careful- they'll look official and have a web address that starts withThe Link and then has some other domain. If you're really worried that the email is legit, go to paypal's site directly and log in. If there's an important message it'll be easy to find there, but usually notices emailed to you from "[email protected]" are scams.
