I'm thinking of putting one in my backyard but can't decide on a standard, wooden deck or a stone deck (ex: lay concrete slab and use stones, limestone?). any suggestions/ideas? I was thinking a rock/stone deck would last longer and be easier to maintain, but be more expensive.

We have an elevated wood deck off of the back of our house, because of the elevation of the lot. We just put in a paver patio at the bottom of the stairs, and around the side of the house.

Wood decks are a pain in the ***.

Ours paver patio looks a lot like this. This is the same guy (in Atlanta) who did ours. We are going to convert the deck into a sun room in the next year. I can't wait.

yeah, im worried about critters and **** getting under it. you dont really have that prob with a concrete slab. now to just find a mason....

I talked to someone last year that said rule of thumb for rock type patios is about a dollar a sq ft installed.

I had a friend that one himself and used a tip he saw on TV-- put the pavers down over the leveled sand, etc... but get dry mortarand pour it over the pavers and sweep it into the cracks and spaces to make sure it in there good then spray with a fine mist from the waterhose 2 times 30 minutes apart--the next morning go back a sweep again the let it dry a day or so-- this saves lots of back breaking work-- I couldn't tell he didn't do it the hard way
