Watching all these clips of Pat in her heyday, Im seeing flashes of Kim from down the road. Although the clothes are much classier, the demeanor seems about the same. Lots of yelling and jumping. I love it, I think I would've loved that Pat even more. My phone has been ringing throughout the day from other coaches discussing her departure. And I think thats just a huge testiment to what she's meant to the game on every level.
Really sorry to hear that. I had hoped she would be able to coach for couple of years more at least. Looks like she will still able to instruct and enjoy the game, though.
Simply put, she was as good as they come. She's the measuring stick for everybody else out there coaching women's basketball, and will be for a long time. The best testimonial I could make would be this...as a Horn fan, I both loved and hated it when Tennessee was on the schedule. You knew you'd ALWAYS get their best, and their best was usually good enough.
Much like 'you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone', Margaret Wade coached girls' basketball when I was in high school in MS, and went on to create her legend at the local college.
