Passover Appetizer

I asked what I could bring to a seder and was told to bring an appetizer, now in my family we never had any appetizers before/during/after our seder. Thus I ask the greatness of Hornfans to help a brother out here and give me your kosher for passover ideas for an appetizer.

Grandma always had chopped liver and matzos. Maybe I can find the recipe, but it is basically just chicken livers sauted in reconstituted chicken fat, along with a few sauted onions, a little salt and pepper. Then you cool it in the fridge and grind it up somehow, spread it onto crackers or matzos.
Some people might not like liver, though. It is also extremely high in colesterol.

If I were to say: I like a ham sandwich with melted cheddar cheese on it topped with bacon and served on a fluffy roll...

That wouldn't be the kind of appetizer you're talking about, would it?

HONEST ANSWER:

Mom's side isn't "Chosen".

Dad's side never had appetizers. We showed up, sat down, let people hock up loogies as they're saying prayers, drink 2 glasses of grape juice (it was expensive, so we didn't have 4 glasses, just two), eat the haroset with matzo, the bitter herbs (usually radishes, but my dad liked green onions), parsley, salt water, hardboiled egg...

Then it was matzo ball soup time!!!

We never did the appetizer thing, but I would recommend some kind of whitefish served on cucumber slices. Stay away from pork and levened bread.

the whitefish on cucumber isn't a bad idea... no go on the liver as that is one of the few things I don't eat

Well, you could get the bottled gefilte fish at a store that has an ethnic department, like Fiesta on 38 1/2 street, and serve it with horseradish, as a salad on a piece of lettuce, or as a snack on pieces of matzo. But you should make chopped liver. What is that stuff made of apples and raisins or whatever, horosis (sp?), can that be an appetizer, or just part of the seder? It is good on a piece of matzo.

BTW, if you are in Austin, this may be cheating, but the Soup Peddler is making matzo ball soup, and maybe some other dishes that would be appropriate for Passover-check their website. You have to order ahead. Also, Central Market does the same kind of thing, and you may be able to get something perfect for an appetizer there.
