Partisan Coverup or Joint Collusion?

To set the stage, Doug Elmendorf is appointed director of the CBO to replace Peter Orszag by Nancy Pelosi and Senator Robery Byrd in January of 2009. Link

Last night, ZeroHedge covered the story of Lan T. Pham, Ph.D. Dr. Pham was fired by the CBO 2 1/2 months into the job. She has written a letter to Senator Grassley (read letter) which she has now made public, and given further background in this piece by Zero Hedge (must read).

Most of you who read this story (all five or six of us) will classify this as a liberal coverup. And to the extent that Pelosi and Byrd appointed the leadership, you'll have a point. However if this story is true - and I have every reason to believe it is true - the Republicans should be all over this if their interests lie in representing the citizens.

Thus far I see NOTHING of note in the press and hear NOTHING from anyone in Washington. Where is Romney stating to get to the bottom of all of this? Hell, if he opened his mouth, his campaign funds would dry up faster than Lake Travis in August. Ditto anyone else with any political ambitions.

I'll submit that everyone in Congress that has a pulse on the real story probably knows what's been going on and are willing to let it go as long as it can be ignored. Therefore, I can draw only one conclusion: The big banking interests have firm control of all of DC. Obama, Pelosi, and whomever else winds up in an authority position is merely a puppet on a string. This story makes me want to puke.

Beat me to it Musburger, I was just about to post this. Truly amazing how someone broke in to her place after firing her.

I guess the govt. would rather do everything in their power to pump sunshine up the US citizens asses to tell everyone how the great the econony is doing. Whatever happened to honesty in reporting the facts? even if those facts paint a more dismal accurate picture of what's really happeing, with a real substantive plan to get us out of this mess.

Wow, and I thought the Iraqi Minister of Information was being evasive of factual reporting.. I seem to get a mental picture of the Iraqi Minister everytime our govt. agencies speak.

Okay, I read the two articles but I am unclear as to what the liberal coverup is.

Are you saying that it's a coverup that Byrd/Pelosi appointed Elmendorf and that he then used his power to paint a rosier picture of the economy than is actually true and that this is the coverup? Just seeking clarity.

I'm not sure I'd use terms like "cover-up," but this image that CBO is particularly authoritative or nonpartisan was never an accurate one. CBO was set up, because Congress wanted to diminish the role of the Office of Management and Budget (which is in the White House) in the budget-making process under Nixon and because it questioned the independence of Nixon's OMB. (In other words, they did it to screw with Nixon.)

Here's the problem - Congress is run by partisan politicians just like the White House is. Accordingly, its budget office is just as partisan as the White House's. It's just beholden to a different group of politicians.

I'm glad we have a CBO. It wasn't wise to let the White House dominate the budget process for all those years. However, we shouldn't BS. It has as much of a political agenda as anybody else.

I think the main issue to take from this is that both parties, the white house, congress, the senate, are bought and paid for. We can have all the different groups in the world, but if they are all bought and paid for, it doesnt really matter. But we sure do get to vote ever four years, so we make a difference, right? The bankers on wall street and mega corporate executives are laughing all the way to the bank on that one.

^^^^Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.....we have a winner! The majority of the elite in this country will continue to do what's best for themselves, regardless of party affiliation. If that means sweethart deals, collusion, misrepresentation of the facts to confuse the sheeple in this country, then they are okay with it as long as confiscation of wealth continues, the rest of the country be damned.
